Looks like WordPress is upgrading left, right and all over the place. For the moment, I am the victim of Murphy’s law that says
What can go wrong, will go wrong.

So there I was, getting all caught up in my computer and situation here in sunny Taiwan, when something totally unexpected happened again. It’s the main reason why I haven’t been able to upload any new articles or posts. My laptop’s hardrive crashed. At least I didn’t loose anything really important, since most of my things and data has been backed up on DVDs in the days before my move.
Right now, I have high speed internet access at home but no way of using it until I get the laptop repaired. One of the reasons why it did break down is that it was on and being used all the time. And I guess a laptop, even a desktop replacement like mine, isn’t made to be used that much 24/7. But what to do when you don’t have a desktop?
At least I brought 2x400GB HDs that are still unformatted with me to be installed in a desktop. Hopefully, we will be operational again with a few weeks. At least there have been no problems at work. We hope that we will get a scooter in a week or two so that we will be more mobile.
Somehow I wish that my parents could send me my desktop, but it’s possible and probable that getting a new one in Taiwan would be a lot cheaper. Computers here are supposed to be dirt cheap.

My daily routine is now firmly entrenched. I get up around 6 AM, take a shower and walk to work with my wife. I don’t eat breakfast. We arrive around 7 AM at work, get our lessons ready and doodle around. My wife starts teaching at 8 AM. I start around 9 AM with my Kindergarten kids. I then teach the most rowdy classes at the school. I’ve just started giving out detention to anyone who doesn’t do their homework.
We eat at the school at noon and start teaching again at 13:40. We leave the school around five PM. We walk home, buys some noodles and eat. My wife is obsessed with CNN, soccer and golf for some reason. I just put on one of the multiple movie channels until I get sleepy and go to bed.
I still have some reading to catch up on, but most of it is on my laptop. And since my laptop is down for the moment, I can’t read anything. Actually I could read The Historian, but I don’t feel like it.

Yesterday, we discovered the best bakery near our place. It has these great buns. They aren’t rice buns, but flour buns. Some of them come with strips of beef covered in spices and cheese. Nothing really spicy, but they are damn good.

Hey Ranjit! I’m catching up the news, this is my first visit on your blog since you left Montreal. Happy to learn mostly everything is going well in Taiwan. You seem to like Taiwan and your job a lot, I’m happy for you.
Tell Jo I said Hi!
I think you’re right, a locally purchased desktop should be dirt cheap. Nice pic of the St Kilda Kiosk BTW, just down the road from my place.
Calling by to say hi, best wishes, The Artist
Hello Range,
Just dropping a note, HELLO! I hope taiwan is treating you well…besides the fact that you get to coach the most rowdy kids…
Have you found your losing weight from the amount of food your eat? I have heard this here say…so i want to know if its try in your case.
I should get my diploma from UVIC in november…and we shall see where i end up.
Cheers,
Luke
Actually, I found myself gaining weight. Why? Because I used to eat a lot of meat and veggies and not a lot of carbs. Here, it is hard to eat a lot of meat without having some noodles as well. But I am getting a gym membership this month or next month and I’ll shed the pounds again.
