So tomorrow night, at around 6:45PM, we will be taking an Air Asia flight to Phuket. I have read up on all the information at my hands and it seems that there isn’t much sightseeing to be done, except if you are doing people watching.
Good, because I am all Wat-ed out. I have seen a lot of Wats in the Bangkok region, in preparation for this summer and Angkor Wat, but the sun and the heat, and walking around do drain you quite a bit. It’s best to do a few at a time and not all at once.
But in Ayutthaya, I got into a groove and felt like a bit of Indiana Jones. I just had to go to the next one on my list, and dragged the wife behind me as I made my way there.
Phuket.
We will be taking a minivan directly to Ao Chalong, they are quite easy to find and we have had news that we can take a direct one, instead of taking one to Kata and Karon and then taking a taxi.
The cost?
Should be around 100-150 BHT per person, or cheaper.
Our room in the Ao Chalong Inn have been reserved and we are looking forward to a bit more luxury than we had in our guesthouse in Bangkok. Mostly, I am looking forward to sun, beaches and good times with old friends.
I plan on renting a motorbike and driving around to the different beaches, especially Paton beach, where I have heard there are a lot of neon lights. Should be great for night photography.
Hopefully, the wife will be in tow. I’m pretty sure it will be fine, we have been riding on a scooter daily in Taiwan for 6 months. It will just cut down on the transportation costs and the constant haggling we have to deal with when you are in smaller towns.
My friend just told me that there was a festival going on at Wat Chalong for another few days, so we will be happy to visit the temple.
We might visit Ko Phi Phi, the James Bond island in The Man with the Golden Gun.

Yes, there’s a festival at Wat Chalong for a few more days. Might just see you there. It’s more like a big market really. Phuket has a lot of temples, but much more besides!
I better correct one thing - you said “We might visit Ko Phi Phi, the James Bond island in The Man with the Golden Gun.”
Actually the “James Bond Island” is in Phang Nga Bay, a long way from Phi Phi. There are loads of tours there. Next week I will be heading up there with the family. We will drive to Phang Nga and rent our own longtail boat.
If you plan on Phang Nga Bay (James Bond Island) I suggest you go as early as possible.
Phi Phi is better known as the place where “The Beach” was filmed (Leonardo DiCaprio). Again, an easy day trip but I woud recommend staying overnight there, as it is crowded with daytrippers. Night time much nicer.
Enjoy!

Phuket
Yeah, I got that when we arrived. I don’t know how I mixed both of those up, must have been someone who told me. Anyways, we are not planning on going to any island tours. The most that we will do is go to the Wat tonight with my friend JS and today, I plan on driving around on the motorcycle and visiting the beaches while the wife stays inside. She is a redhead and has problems with the sun.
