On my way to the Tian Tan Buddha (天壇大佛) in Hong Kong, I met a couple of Australians.
I was using my camera to take pictures of the ascent. The older couple admired my camera. I told them that it took great pictures. The husband told me of this problems with cameras. They forgot their camera in the hotel and had to use a disposable film camera. He wasn’t too happy about it, but he took it well.
His wife was most interested by my journey to Taiwan and how I got there as a Canadian. I told them my story and they enjoyed it. They told me that they had been to Canada as well and visited Quebec. They were on the last leg of a world tour and were having a lot of fun. They younger man was a banker from Melbourne. He was visiting Hong Kong before going back. He wasn’t dressed as a banker, he was dressed as a someone on vacation. He was enjoying his time in Hong Kong as well.
The husband talked to me about his son. He told me of the troubles his son had of obtaining a work permit in Canada. He told me that he was lucky that he did it so quickly. Canada accepts people easily under the age of 30. Over that, it’s a lot more complicated. He was glad that his son had done this in time.
They were surprised at how much I was aware of Australian current events.
