On Spike, Symria & NaNoWriMo And Haters

I took a long walk yesterday evening with Spike. I walked slowly and made Spike heel most of the time. It was good and towards the end, I let Spike off the leash to enjoy a few minutes of insane running with two other dogs. I’m reticent to let him off the leash too much. There are a lot of strays and you don’t really know how they will act with Spike. I know that he will always come to me when I call him, but I’m worried that sometimes his curiosity will get the better of him. In Canada, he was off leash at the dog park and other controlled environments.

It was very relaxing. I took the time to finalize my story Symria in my mind. I am writing it for NaNoWriMo. I’m very close to 40000 words and getting ready for the home stretch. I’m confident that I will finish in time. I’ve got 9 days left to reach 50000.

The novel itself is divided into three parts, for now. I’m finishing the first part. In the first part, our hero Ivan doesn’t cross into the Otherworld yet. That happens in the second part. Ivan stays in the real world, or the Waking World as I call it in the novel. I think that the hardest part was going from 20000 words to 30000. It’s the time when it’s easy to stop. But I continued writing.

The rest of what I have to write in the first part is pretty much mapped out. All that is left is to write it down. Currently, I’m writing how Ivan will defeat the In Between Witch. I’m also finishing up a small flashback on how Lisa and Ivan met for the first time. This book involves a lot of monsters and nightmares.

I had a lot of fun writing it. I’ll share some excerpts and passages when I feel comfortable with them. They need editing. I’ve also fleshed out the mythology of Symria and the Otherworld. While I haven’t delved into the City of cities itself, I’ve written legends and folklore on how the Otherworld came to be.

For some strange reason, I’ve been getting some hatemail. Haters are always out there, but it really boggles my mind the amount of effort that they go to. Then they are miffed when their comments aren’t published. Read the disclaimer! I’ll edit your comment if I feel it’s inappropriate, I’ll delete your comment if I think it’s hateful and isn’t constructive! All comments are moderated!
