Torchwood S02E01 (BBC)

Torchwood is a science fiction drama television program, created by Russell T Davies and starring John Barrowman and Eve Myles. It deals with the machinations and activities of the Cardiff branch of the fictional Torchwood Institute, who deal with supernatural occurrences. An initial 13-part series was commissioned by the BBC as a spin-off from the long-running science fiction program Doctor Who with which it is closely interlinked.

From the Torchwood Wikipedia entry.

I was hotly anticipating the new season of Torchwood. I was a bit disappointed by all of the gay porn that was thrust in my face. I know that Captain Jack is bisexual, but there is no need for him to make out constantly with other actors on film. This episode was actually not that bad. I haven’t been blown away by the stories of Torchwood. Hopefully when we see Martha Jones, things will pick up.

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

The team is trying to catch a blowfish driving a Chrysler Crossfire. Captain Jack is missing. There is a funny scene where the blowfish alien stops to let an old lady pass the street. He’s listening to Wu Tang Clan. That song brings back memories. Captain Jack reappears to take care of blowfish.

Captain Jack says that he saw the Doctor, but that there is nothing that he could do. The dead blowfish has got something flashing in his pocket.

A strange man appears through the rift. He kills a mugger and goes to a pub. He has the same bracelet as Captain Jack. Cap Jack receives a message from him. He’s waiting for Jack at a bar. The make out and start fighting. Looks like they were lovers. He’s from the Time Agency. He tells Jack that the agency has been shutdown. The team arrives. They are introduced. His name is Captain John Hart.

Captain John Hart is after some radiation cluster bombs that were swept up in a rift storm.

Jack is surprised to find out that Gwen is getting married soon. Gwen splits up the team so that she can be with Captain John. Jack warns her about him. They find the canister. John kisses Gwen. She is paralyzed. John uses a paralyzing lip gloss. In two hours, she will die if she isn’t found. John takes the first canister. He makes his way to see Tosh. John takes the second canister. He shoots Owen.

Jack asks Yanto out on a date while they search for the canister. John disarms Yanto. He tells him that his friends are dying. Yanto goes to save them. Jack finds the last canister. They have a bit of a discussion and Jack throws the canister away. John pushes Jack over the edge of the building. He falls down on the ground.

Owen is shot in the hip. Yanto finds them. They all go to find Gwen. They find her and try to administer the antitoxin.
The canisters contain strange puzzle pieces. John tries to assemble them. He is cornered by the Torchwood Three team. He tells them that it’s about some diamond. A woman he murdered hid it. Jack tells him to open it. The woman appears and tells him that there is no diamond. Only an explosive device that latches onto John. She tells him that it latched onto the DNA of her killer.

John wants Jack’s help. He doesn’t want to. John takes Gwen hostage. He puts handcuffs on Gwen. The handcuffs can’t be cut off and John swallows the key. Gwen makes her way to the place where a rift storm will appear. Owen is concocting something.

It’s a syringe with their blood. He injects it into John. This confuses the disk. It drops off. Jack throws it into the rift. There is a temporal displacement. The rift resets the world to the time when John came to Earth. Before leaving, John says that he found Gray.
