Battlestar Galactica Recap

With the new season of BSG set to start next Friday, watch this recap of the first three seasons of the show. I liked it. (YouTube, SFW)

Christian And Other Music

In the past, I would have been quick to dismiss Christian faith music, especially the metal or alternative metal. However, I’ve come to change my mind over the years.

I don’t really care about the faith of a band. I’m sure that I’ve listened to Satanists over the years. Is Christian faith music so aberrant?

No.

I actually like Flyleaf a lot. I know that Evanescence isn’t really Christian faith music, but I still like it. I watched Die Hard 4 when it came out. I watched the movie again and rediscovered Flyleaf, a band that I had found interesting at the time. There was a time in my life where I wouldn’t listen to any music with instruments. I would only listen to electronic music.

Currently, I listen to a vast array of music, from IDM, minimal techno, to indie and metal. Naturally bands and artists like Hooverphonic, Portishead (I love Third), Massive Attack, The Cardigans, Tricky, Orbital, Moby (Last Night is released tomorrow), Björk, Mouse on Mars, Stereolab, Autechre, Aphex Twin, Metallica (only the first four albums), Slayer (Seasons in the Abyss) :Wumpscut:, Suicide Commando and Evil’s Toy (now called Toy) have been staples in my earphones for years.

Torchwood Fragments S02E12 (BBC)

Torchwood is a science fiction drama television program, created by Russell T Davies and starring John Barrowman and Eve Myles. It deals with the machinations and activities of the Cardiff branch of the fictional Torchwood Institute, who deal with supernatural occurrences. An initial 13-part series was commissioned by the BBC as a spin-off from the long-running science fiction program Doctor Who with which it is closely interlinked.

This was a good show. I was actually surprised. Most of this season’s shows were abysmal. This one was good since we discovered how all of the current members of the Torchwood team came to join Jack’s renegade branch.

After epiosde 9, which was a great show, this show is also bit of a disappointment. I was expecting more once again. It’s a bit pathetic. Hopefully the season will end well.

The Wire -30- S05E10 (HBO)

The Wire is an American television drama set and produced in Baltimore, Maryland. Created, produced, and primarily written by author and former police reporter David Simon, the series is broadcast by the premium cable network HBO in the United States. The Wire premiered on June 2, 2002, with 50 episodes airing over the course of its first four seasons. The fifth and final season, which encompasses 10 episodes, premiered on January 6, 2008.

The plot of the first season centers on the ongoing struggles between police units and drug-dealing gangs on the west side of the city, and is told from both points of view. Subsequent seasons have focused on other facets of the city. The large cast consists mainly of character actors who are little known for their other roles. Simon has said that despite its presentation as a crime drama, the show is “really about the American city, and about how we live together. It’s about how institutions have an effect on individuals, and how…whether you’re a cop, a longshoreman, a drug dealer, a politician, a judge [or] lawyer, you are ultimately compromised and must contend with whatever institution you’ve committed to.

From the Wikipedia entry on The Wire.

The Wire is a show that is strangely addictive. I really enjoyed how the Barksdale investigation encompassed the first few seasons. This is something that never really happens in TV. The same investigation spanning three seasons? Anyway, the fifth season still uses elements from the first season. I think it’s a great show. I also enjoy how in the fifth season, Simon plans on featuring the media and how it impacts the city.
