Women’s Murder Club Maybe Baby S01E05 (ABC)

Women’s Murder Club is a police procedural drama on ABC based on the James Patterson books. It features a series of women who work together to solve cases. Lindsay Boxer is a Detective Inspector in the San Fransisco PD. Jill Bernhardt is the ADA. Claire Washburn is the medical examiner. Cindy Thomas is a reporter that works with them on police cases.

I haven’t read the James Patterson books, but the title is pretty lame. I mean, come on. Women’s murder club? WTF! Basically the main characters are all in one aspect of law enforcement, from the police, to the coroner to the DA’s office. A new member of the club is part of the media.

When I think of the title of this show, I think about a bunch of women drinking tea and investigating a murder. None of them would be involved in law enforcement, they’d just be interested in murders and solving them, kind of like a babysitter club. OK, maybe not a babysitter club, but you get the idea.

I still haven’t made up my mind about this show. The really annoying part is that there is a lot of the story missing, like how did Lindsay get divorced and what exactly did happen during the Kiss Me Knot serial killer case? Maybe the show plans on revealing this later on or maybe the series is based on one book in a series and we are missing a few key details. The fact that they producers and writers chose to make the show about a new case every episode is telling. If it focused on the Kiss Me Knot killer, it would have taken a story arc to find out who killed the women. Currently, three new episodes are in the process of being aired. The first two have been aired. Only the last one is left. The show’s current status is still uncertain.

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

Jill and Lindsay go to a new murder scene. I wonder why the ADA is hanging around. The case involves a dead security guard.

Lindsay and Jacobi learn that Ethan wasn’t alone when he was shot. His wife Beth was with him, she is nine months pregnant. Lindsay thinks that Beth was abducted because someone wants the baby.

Evan was shot with a .38. He was clean and had the business card of a Consuela Sanchez. He called Consuela at 10PM the night he was killed. She’s their Lamaze teacher. She says that last week someone in her class gave birth to a stillborn. Melanie Topper was the girl’s name and she was close with Ethan and Beth.

Topper says that Ethan was upset when he learned about Beth’s new boyfriend. She says that the boyfriend comes from San Ramon.

Some of the blood at the scene is revealed by analysis to indicate that Beth was near labour. Jill asks Tom why did he take this job in this precinct. She has heard that he had better opportunities, even working with the chief of detectives. She says that he only took this job to be near Lindsay again.

Lindsay finds some evidence at their home that links to Sam Johannes. He did time for almost killing a guy a few years ago. He doesn’t say much and requests a lawyer immediately.

Sam has got a wife. Beth Williams wasn’t Sam’s girlfriend. Sam was trying to adopt a kid with his wife. Beth wanted to give up the baby. They were getting divorced and they didn’t want the baby. Sam says that he gave them $15K.

The wife says that Beth had a boyfriend named Dale Petersen.

Dale Petersen owns a boat named the San Ramon. Jill pushes through a search warrant and Lindsay goes to investigate with Jacobi. The boat smells of bleach. Somebody tried to clean up, but left a lot of blood. They find a bloody knife. They know now that Beth had her baby. Divers go into the water to check if bodies were dumped.

Cindy finds Dale Petersen. He says nothing once he is brought in for questioning. He says that he broke up with her a few months ago. He says that he doesn’t go on his boat on weekends. He says that he was with a friend. He says that he was with a sugar mommy. Lindsay loses her temper when Dale gives her attitude. He implies that he did something at least. He hits him. Tom has to intervene.

Jill tells Lindsay that they found the baby. She’s fine. Sam and his wife arrive. Lindsay wants to know where they found out that the baby was at the hospital. Sam says that a woman called his cell phone an hour ago and told him where the baby was.

It leads back to Melanie Topper. They find Beth at Melanie’s place. She is brandishing a .357 magnum at Lindsay. She shot her husband with his gun. He said that he wanted to sign the adoption papers, but then he refused to do so. Beth was about to shoot herself. Lindsay disarms her easily.

Ethan’s parents get the baby.

Lindsay comes back home and finds Tom sitting on her porch. He says that he got Dale to back off from his suit. Lindsay was pregnant and lost the baby. This is why Tom thought that this case would be hard on Lindsay. They kiss.
