In Plain Sight S01E07 (USA)

In Plain Sight follows a kind of show that has been made very popular on USA. It follows Burn Notice and Psych. It’s half comedy, half drama. Dramedy. The stories follow Mary Shannon, an officer for the US Marshals Witness Protection. Actually, Psych is all comedy, but you get the idea. It kind of reminds me of Saving Grace on TNT.

They have to relocate and protect witnesses to federal cases. In this episode, Mary and Marshall put in a new family in the witness protection program.

The father is a doctor and the family is in the program because the daughter was a witness in a hit-and-run. Her boyfriend was shot multiple times protecting her in South Central LA. The father has trouble forgiving his daughter, since he has to leave a very successful medical practice that he’s built up over 20 years.

I liked this episode. Mary is dealing with Raph as best as she can. She sees that her sister is interested in Raph as well. Mary still has commitment issues. The case is interesting. You often wonder what happens to professionals when they relocate. Do they have to do menial jobs?

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

In South Central LA, a young couple is walking on the street. They get hassled by some Latino hoods. One of the gangsters pulls an Uzi and empties a clip on them. The young man is shot protecting the girl with his body.

Iris McBride is the one in witsec.

Mary is late to pick up Raph for physical therapy. She’s in LA. She just got back from out of state. She calls Brandy to go pick him up instead. She’s very happy to comply. Mary doesn’t know it, but she’s pushing Raph and Brandy together. It won’t take long before they get involved.

Mary knows that Brandy didn’t want her to know that she wanted to take him. Brandy stripped and got into some sexy undies. She calls Chuck and a girl answers.

Mary and Marshall arrive at the McBride home. They have to brief the family on what is going to happen to them. Iris is already in LA under federal protection. Mary tells them that the kid who shot her boyfriend will be back for them. He’s part of a very violent gang. She tells them that they have to leave LA immediately and permanently.

Since the gang is so violent, the DOJ is offering them entry into the witness protection program. It’s possible that Iris can go into the program by herself, but they will not be able to see her ever again.

Marshall and Mary clear them for Albuquerque. They don’t know anyone there.

Raph says that he hasn’t had sex with Mary since he proposed.

Dr. McBride is told that he can no longer practice medicine. He can still use his medical background. Marshall says that the program is about anonymity. The good doctor is extremely angry at his daughter for being a git and going into South Central LA.

The boy is still in surgery.

Marshall brings Dr. McBride to his new job. He’s Dr. Morris. Mary is helping to settle in the family.

McBride graduated from John Hopkins, he doesn’t want to demean himself by working at a shitty clinic. Marshall tells him that Dr. Espinoza graduated from Harvard Medical.

Mary catches Iris making a call to the hospital where Laurence is. Mary is going to take Iris to identify the shooter in LA.

Iris doesn’t want to tell Mary who they went to see in South Central LA. She brings Iris to see Laurence in the ICU.

The mother tells the Marshals that Warren left to search for jobs in other clinics. Marshall is livid. He told Warren that he had one and only one opportunity to practice medicine, and that’s in Dr. Espinoza’s clinic.

He finds Warren drinking. He brings him back.

Mary goes to see Raph. She brings food. While they fool around on the couch, Brandy drops by. She brought him some food. Mary finds this strange. Raph tells her that Brandy hasn’t been taking Chuck’s calls ever since a girl answered. Mary finds that he knows a lot about Brandy’s love life. He says that she doesn’t know anything about Brandy’s life.

Mary is pissed off and leaves.

Iris overhears her parents talking. Warren says that he can’t do this. It’s taken him 20 years to build up a successful medical practice. Why doesn’t he just sell the practice to his partners?

She hears her father say that in 8 months, Iris is an adult. They can go back to their lives and she can continue in the program. The wife tells him not to make her choose between him and her children. The next morning, they find that Iris is missing.

Lily says that she was visiting a boy from school. Iris came to get her. She saw it happen. Iris made her promise not to tell. Iris told Lily that it was better if their father hated one of their daughters, not both of them.

Chuck asked Brandy about a suitcase. He hoped she hadn’t misplaced it. We see a shot of her dumping the suitcase over a bridge.
