Recaps of my Mad Men marathon…
Loved the show and the character development.
We see some of Don’s past. In this past, he’s a small boy and his name is Dick. His brother Adam was just born.
Don falls to the floor as he tries to bring his wife breakfast in bed. His past overwhelms in, in an impeding sense of déjà vu.
Betty is melancholy about her mom. It’s Mother’s Day. She confesses to Don that she waits for him all day for him to make love to her. She thinks about this all the time. They make love.
The next day, Don is in a meeting with some Jews about Haifa. They want to hire Sterling Cooper to brand Israel in a better light. The idea is to drum up a tourism industry for Haifa.
Don’s boss Roger’s daughter Margaret and wife Mona show up at the office. Joan makes them an appointment to cut Margaret’s hair.
Later, after having had sex with Joan in the afternoon, he talks about his daughter Margaret. She isn’t doing much in her life. She isn’t dating anyone. He’s been sleeping with her for over a year. Joan doesn’t have any illusions about Roger, even though he talks like he wants to leave his wife and shack up with her.
Don is in a meeting with his boys. They think that Israel is a bit commie. Charlie says that the Jews there don’t look like the Jews here. They are great looking. Don gives Rachel Wenken a call. He needs her help.
At home, Don reads Exodus, the popular Jewish book that his clients left for him as research material. Betty says that the first person she kissed was a Jewish boy. Betty wants some sex, but Don has a book to read.
The boys need some help from the girls at the office for some marketing research on Belle Jolie, a lipstick brand. The men laugh at them through the one-way mirror. A Belle Jolie matron is asking the girls questions.
Joan is aware of the glass and shows off her bum to the boys. Roger just arrived. Peggy isn’t using any of the lipsticks.
Don meets Rachel for lunch. He needs her help with the Israel Tourism account. Rachel tells him that you shouldn’t cross any Israelis. He doesn’t really get anywhere with her.
Freddy has got a thing for Peggy. He comes to see Don about it. Freddy says that she really stood out during the brain storming. Peggy had some very smart things to say. She said that she didn’t want to be one of 100 colors from a box. She also mentioned a basket of kisses when Freddy asked her for the wastepaper basket containing all of the tissues with lipstick.
Rachel phones her sister. She tells her that she met someone. She tells her about Don.
Joan tells Peggy that the boys want her to write a few things for the Belle Jolie account. She gets more responsibilities, but not more money. It’s an opportunity.
Don goes to see Midge. A guy named Roy invites her to go to a club. Midge bribes him by telling him that she’ll only be wearing a skirt and nothing help.
Roger is waiting for Joan. He’s got a bird for her. He wants her to move out into a place of her own so that he can stop sneaking around.
Don is moved by Midge’s friend Ian’s song. There is a beautiful scene as he looks on to the stage. The music takes center place and we see Roger and Joan going their separate ways. We see Betty dressing up her daughter.
