Last year, Philips came out with an LED LivingColors light that was a smash hit. Keen on capitalizing on that success story, Philips is coming out with a miniaturized version that features 256 different color modes and an updated look.

This time around, they also didn’t include a remote. Instead, they went with an integrated color wheel on the lamp itself, which may be positive or negative depending on the placement of the lamp.

The mini edition of the LivingColors lamp is smaller than its predecessor, but still emits an amazing amount of light. Between its bigger sibling and the mini edition, we feel that the design of the original is still a bit above this one. The original was in a clear transparent mount, whereas the new Mini edition is available in either black or white. However, the new smaller version is cheaper and will be easier to find.
The mood of a room can be changed dramatically without the need for a single drop of paint. The mood lighting is especially useful when working at night, giving a nice diffuse glow that spreads all over a room or office.
The Philips Mini LivingColors is expected to arrive at the end of September 2008 and can be pre-ordered from Red5 for £85 (about $166 USD).
