Fringe In Which We Meet Mr Jones S01E07 (Fox)

Inside the St-Vincent-de-Paul Church

It’s fitting that this show will premiere on Fox, since this was the network of the X-Files. Fringe has got much in common with the X-Files, yet it is different. Fringe is the latest show of wunderkind J.J. Abrams. Like most new shows, the pilot was leaked on the internet a few weeks ago.

Just like a few other shows, like True Blood, I’m happily surprised by Fringe. The production values are great and I’m enjoying it a lot. A lot of money has been pumped into this show, and it just looks fabulous. The protagonists are also an interesting bunch. There isn’t much more that we learn of the Pattern, but Massive Dynamics is most definitely deeply connected with those events, even though they aren’t sharing their information with Agent Dunham.

I think that this show takes a few common elements from Alias, especially for all the things that concerned the mystic scholar Milo Rambaldi. The same kind of esoteric science is involved in this show. It’s done very well. I’d actually like to see this type of mystic science have more of an impact on the show. It would suit the show very well. A bit of the supernatural wouldn’t be bad either.

Broyles asks Dunham’s and Bishop’s help to save Mitchell Loeb, an old friend of his, who has contracted a strange parasite that’s strangling his heart. There is more to this than meets the eye, but for the moment, none of the characters are aware of this. It leads Dunham and Broyles to conclude that they have a leak, but a scapegoat is offered up. The trouble is that the scapegoat doesn’t have access to high security files, like the ones they know are leaked.

The interplay between Peter and Walter really makes this show great to watch. I really enjoy it and I recommend it.

An FBI SWAT team in moving into position with other units in Weymouth, Massachusetts. They intercept a truck. It was a bust. Jo Smith was the person that the FBI was targeting. While briefing Broyles, Loeb has a heart attack. Right before, Broyles noticed that 7 lbs was the difference between the weights in the truck when it passed customs.

They have to open Loeb up in order to massage the heart. They find something in the chest cavity. It’s a strange organ or parasite that’s quite large. It’s got teeth and makes a strange noise. It’s gray in color. Broyles brings in Dunham.

Bishop hasn’t seen this before. It’s partially organic, most likely a hybrid. It seems that the organism is designed to entirely enfold the heart. It purrs strangely when the Bishop approaches it. Loeb just returned from Frankfurt. When Bishop tries to take a tissue sample, the parasite tries to strangle Loeb’s heart.

It turns out that the parasite was genetically engineered. They found a repeating pattern in the genetic makeup. Someone inserted a repeating pattern on purpose. It might be a code. Astrid thinks that it’s a simple Caesar shift.

Dunham talks with Broyles. Loeb thought that a man called Jones was ZFT, some organization involved with the Pattern. There are privately funded cells in 83 countries. They aren’t terrorists, but they deal in science. Jones was arrested by the German authorities. The trouble is that the Germans won’t let them access to Jones. Dunham plans on flying to Frankfurt.

Loeb isn’t doing well. They find a root in the IV, spreading out from the parasite. It’s taking the fluid that’s intended for Loeb. Dunham arrives in Frankfurt. She meets an old friend named Lucas. Anna Torv is extremely hot when she smiles.

They head to Wissenschaft prison to see the prisoner. Wissenschaft means science in German, isn’t that funny. Lucas offers him things that Lennox the warden wants. Dunham says that she is willing to sign documents stating that she was not here and did not see Jones. The warden lets her give a message for Jones. Jones doesn’t speak to anyone. Lucas waits with her. The warden says that Jones will see her. He will see her tomorrow morning. The warden gives her a message. Jones wants to talk with Joseph Smith.

Francis phones Broyles that he’s got a lead on ZFT. He was able to decode the message that Loeb brought back. It leads back to Joseph Smith. Dunham phones Peter. She says that they need Smith alone. Peter witnesses Smith’s death at the hands of the FBI agents.

-Hello, Peter, This is me Walter, your father.
-Thank you Walter, I know who you are.
The Bishops

Bishop tells Peter that they need the body. Bishop will make it talk. Lucas asks her to spend the night, but she gets a call from Peter. Peter tells her that Smith might be able to talk. Since Smith was shot in the head, it complicates matters. Bishop says that he performed this procedure on Jimmy Hoffa. It didn’t work well, because he didn’t endure current well. Peter remembers that Walter used to experiment on him.

Lucas and Dunham have a heart-to-heart about their previous involvement. They kiss and make out. Peter briefs Dunham via phone. Dunham uses this as an excuse to go back to her hotel room.

There is a problem when they do a dry run with Smith. They aren’t getting the responses from Smith. Jones says that he isn’t responsible for the infection of Agent Loeb. Bishop needs to inject Peter with a cocktail of drugs in order to make the process work.

Jones says that someone wants information from the both of them. Jones wants to know where the gentlemen live. Before they can get an answer, Loeb has a seizure. Dunham has run out of time. Peter drew something strange horizontal lines. Peter has the answer. Little Hill. Jones gives her a way to get rid of the parasite. They inject the cocktail and the roots are dying. Loeb will live.

Lucas offers to help Dunham to find out more about Jones. Broyles tells Loeb that they have a high-level mole working for ZFT. Except John Scott, Loeb doesn’t know anything more. Broyles thinks that there is someone else.

Loeb was the mole. He is conspiring with his wife or someone posing as her. She gives him the answer that they were seeking, Little Hill.
