Life stars Damian Lewis as Charlie Crews, a police detective who was recently exonerated of a series of murders after having spent 12 years in jail for life. There was a conspiracy to send him to jail. Part of the reason that he as able to last as long in jail was to get back and to find out why he was setup. The setup involves the killing of the Seybolt family. Crews recently discovered Rachel Seybolt alive. She’s been living with him.

Crews and Reese are waiting in a mall. It’s Black Friday. Under a Christmas tree, they find a dead man. He fell or was pushed. The man is named Mitchell Clarke. He worked here. It’s 6AM, the biggest shopping day of the year. An alarm sounds and the doors open. The masses stream in and contaminate the crime scene. The body is gone only a few seconds later.
The killer took the body. Mitchell split with his wife. Nadine thinks that Mitchell was dating Erica from the hat kiosk. Erica is a bitch and says that she wasn’t dating Mitchell. They find a closed kiosk. The sign says Zak Sutter. Crews realizes that Sutter is in the mall. They find him thanks to his cell phone number. They follow him into the bowels of the mall. He actually lives in the mall. There is a girl there too.
Earley tells Crews that he wants to go see Mickey Rayborn next. Rayborn is filthy rich. Charlie sees his ex-wife Jennifer at the reception. He tells her that he wants to go back to where they were before. She says that they can’t go back.
Charlie sees an FBI agent at the reception. He wants to meet with him. Zak and Karen are orphans. He wants to become her guardian, but he still has 4 years to go. They have been living in the mall. Karen is saying much to Reese. CPS would have separated them, that’s why they ran. Tidwell is still asking Reese out for dinner.
They have been living in the mall for almost a year. Crews buys a pair of shades. One of the employees says that Erica and Mitchell were going out. Starks is posing as a Santa Claus. Erica and Clay have been exchanging gifts and replacing them with fruitcake.
Charlie goes to see Jen. She’s waiting for him in a motel. They make love. Afterward, Jen wants to know who did this to them. Charlie will find them. She loved him.
Clay knows that Clarke was murdered. He knows more about the case. Crews is working on Erica and Reese is working on Clay. Erica believes that Mitchell is still alive. They swear that Mitchell is not dead.
There is a distinct possibility that this isn’t either fruit or cake.

Reese is pissed that Tidwell called CPS on Zak and Karen. The cadaver dogs didn’t find anything. Maybe there was too much there. They go to the pet store. It hasn’t been searched yet. They find the body. The store didn’t open at 6AM. It opened at 9:30AM. Security had a key. The head of security is taunting them.
Someone told Erica that Mitchell was still alive. It was Dave. They were all stealing for Mitchell. Dave said that the cops had him. Erica was too young when she started with Mitchell. Dave is the one who keeps everyone in line for Mitchell. Zak isn’t like the rest of them. Dave was worried that Zak would talk.
Karen and Zak escaped from CPS. Tidwell managed to find an aunt somewhere. They are back at the mall. They find Dave. He’s all bloody. They find Karen holding a pipe. Zak was beaten up by Dave. Zak killed Mitchell. Tidwell arrives with Karen’s aunt.
Mitchell was molesting Erica. Zak protected Karen so that Mitchell wouldn’t do the same to her. Crews is putting words into Zak’s mouth so that he doesn’t get charged with murder. Zak understands what he has to do. They leave with the aunt.
Tidwell is drinking alone, waiting for Reese. He’s surprised to see her show up. She looks nice. Tidwell manages to make her realize that she’s still pissed off. Tidwell had a goldfish waiting for her as a present.
Charlie is still driving his Maserati Quattroporte. It’s still shot up. He calls Jen, but she isn’t answering her phone. He goes to meet Bodner from the FBI. He was on loan to HMS. Bodner warns him off Rayborn. Otherwise the bureau will be after him and he’ll be back in jail. He doesn’t say if the feds are investigating him or protecting him.
