Life stars Damian Lewis as Charlie Crews, a police detective who was recently exonerated of a series of murders after having spent 12 years in jail for life. There was a conspiracy to send him to jail. Part of the reason that he as able to last as long in jail was to get back and to find out why he was setup. The setup involves the killing of the Seybolt family. Crews recently discovered Rachel Seybolt alive. She’s been living with him.

Life has definitely got style. The show starts with a load of cop cars all over a place and a Coldplay tune (42 off Viva La Vida) playing. Reese and Crews arrive at the scene. It’s some dead guy buried to look like a flower. His whole body is buried, except his head.
His name is Frank Dunlap. He took a bullet to the chest. He’s diabetic. Crews spots some dinner nearby. It has yesterday’s date. It’s from Beverly Hills Cares, a place that delivers food. He was a driver. Last week, he raised a lot of money for the charity. Frank delivered to all of the sketchy people. Flint Garber and Maude Paxston are sketchy people living near the crime scene. They have a line in the middle of their living room. Frank was there the day before yesterday. They are roommates. The way that they keep their house reminds me of the way that Crews and Reese keep their desks. Crews’ is pristine, Reese’s is chaotic. Crews notices that Reese and Tidwell have some playful banter. They are obviously still screwing. The last murder linked to the address involved the Hazlit, a cult involved in the death of 10 people. They go to the LA museum of mayhem.
Squeaky and Tex are the owners of the museum. Mass murder memorabilia is a huge and growing market. Most collectors keep their collections private. Squeaky was oozing sexuality. She plays Dani in Californication (Rachel Miner).
Hazlit had a bunch of kids with different women. 8 wives and 43 children. One of the mothers’ name was Garber. Her son is Flint Garber Hazlit. Another one was Maude Paxston Hazlit. They return to the house. Flint has got a gun, but Maude says that it isn’t loaded. She doesn’t want them to shoot him.
The Hazlits don’t speak about it. At least Maude doesn’t. Flint talked to him though. He told him. The house has three bedrooms. Flint’s son Clifton sleeps here. Flint never leaves the house.
Once I saw Papy kill a man while he was handcuffed. Strangled him with a chain. Said it was proof of the master-slave relationship.
Maude Paxston Hazlet
They find Clifton. He’s been with his girlfriend. Mindy, the woman in charge of the Beverly Hills Cares charity, is dating Clifton Garber. Clifton arranged to have meals delivered to the house. Tidwell and Starks talk with Tex again. Squeaky is away at an auction. The news was leaked to the media.
Crews is staring at his murder wall in his house. Earley is standing behind him. Rayborn had something to tell him. Earley is depressed that the woman he loves is getting married to Charlie’s father. Crews hasn’t said a word to his dad in a decade.
Rayborn and Crews talk. Rayborn shows him a photo of the FBI agent. Special Agent Bodner works for the FBI. He also moonlights for Roman Nevekoff. Bodner took Roman away. Squeaky is arrested for creating a ruckus at a press conference. They question them. Crews says that Dunlop’s kill was a tribute kill, not a copycat. They are released a little while later. It was just a publicity stunt. Clifton is there and knocks out Tex. Squeaky kisses Clifton. She introduces him to the media as well.
Earley gets pulled over by the cops. There is a gun in his backseat. There are some drugs there too. It’s fishy. It was a setup. Mindy is on TV and withdraws her statement. She meets the cops. She says that Clifton asked her to cover for him. She doesn’t know Clifton. She leaves.
Shots were fired at the mayhem museum. They find Tex shot. Squeaky is injured and hiding. She says that Johnny Hazlit shot her and Tex. They question him. He’s been staying in his limo all night. He’s got an alibi. They want to know who pays for the mortgage of Flint. He sells the stuff that he has from Hazlit. Flint gave some stuff to Frank. He gave all of the Hazlit stuff. Frank said that he could do some good things with the money. Flint told him to stick with the foreign money.
The shot found at the scene of Tex’s murder match the ones from Frank’s body. The prints match Johnny Hazlit. They go to see Squeaky. They think that she killed Tex. She’s got a soft alibi at the auction. The person who owned the Hazlit gun killed Frank and Tex. Squeaky bought that gun. They arrest her for the murders.
Charlie finds Bodner at his house. He’s preparing a meal. He warned him what would happen if he talked to Rayborn. Bodner put Earley back in jail. He was arrested for having a gun and some coke in his car. He says that this happened because he went after Rayborn. Since he’s back in, he’ll stay in and do what they want, or Earley will end up in a supermax.
