Computer Component Prices

Apparently the prices in Taipei for computer parts are higher than in the US. Someone at work told me this and I just went along with it. I didn’t really believe this, but do admit that if things are made for export only, like the iPhones and Macbooks, and have to be imported back from the US, they will be expensive. I have a hard time seeing how this applies to computer parts though. He was talking about gaming gear, high-end video cards and the like.

Well, I haven’t checked, but I wonder if taxes have anything to do with it. I know that Czech-made cars are more expensive in the Czech republic than in the UK for example.

I know for a fact that if something is made for export, it isn’t sold locally through the factory, but exported. Then imported back, which is why it’s more expensive. This is true for iPhones, MacBooks, HP computers, etc.

However locally made stuff that is available on the market is cheaper, like Asus and Acer computers and laptops.
