Fringe Safe S01E10 (Fox)

The St-Jean-Baptiste Church in my neighbourhood

It’s fitting that this show will premiere on Fox, since this was the network of the X-Files. Fringe has got much in common with the X-Files, yet it is different. Fringe is the latest show of wunderkind J.J. Abrams. Like most new shows, the pilot was leaked on the internet a few weeks ago.

Just like a few other shows, like True Blood, I’m happily surprised by Fringe. The production values are great and I’m enjoying it a lot. A lot of money has been pumped into this show, and it just looks fabulous. The protagonists are also an interesting bunch. There isn’t much more that we learn of the Pattern, but Massive Dynamics is most definitely deeply connected with those events, even though they aren’t sharing their information with Agent Dunham.

I think that this show takes a few common elements from Alias, especially for all the things that concerned the mystic scholar Milo Rambaldi. The same kind of esoteric science is involved in this show. It’s done very well. I’d actually like to see this type of mystic science have more of an impact on the show. It would suit the show very well. A bit of the supernatural wouldn’t be bad either.

Warning: spoilers ahead

A bunch of robbers led by Mitchell Loeb get ready to break into a safe. They use sounds and resonance to make a wall un-solid. They are in a safe filled with safety deposit boxes. They get what they want and leave through the wall. One of them is naturally going to get stuck in the wall. Lugo only makes it partly through the wall. Mitchell shoots him and they leave.

Dunham and the Bishops are called in the case. It’s one of three cases that have gone missing in different banks. They were all oversized. Dunham knows the deceased. His name is Raoul Lugo, he was in her first unit in the Marines. Mr. Cole pays a visit to a prisoner named Mr. Jones, who’s kept in the stockade. Cole spoke to Jones’ people. They relayed that the job in Philadelphia went well. The people are supposed to wire Loeb another $100K and the location for their next hit. Jones wants Cole to bring him in some stuff from his people. He doesn’t really care about the legal proceedings.

The Bishops are shopping for an electric saw to cut the body. Dunham pays a visit to Lugo’s widow. They were separated. He moved out two years ago. She isn’t surprised that Lugo was involved in these things.

Susan says that Dunham wasn’t here. It was John Scott who was here. She didn’t know Raoul at all. She is just accessing his memories again, without knowing.

Bishop says that to pass through solid matter the robbers would need cutting-age knowledge of quantum physics, not to mention technology that would cost more than a dozen banks could hold. Dunham says that the widow mentioned that Raoul was depressed. She tells them that she is confusing John Scott’s memories for her own.

Loeb doesn’t let his crew see what is in the boxes. Sharpe’s team hit a dead end with John Scott’s memory retrieval. She pushes them to work further on them.

Bishop learns that use of this technology renders the users somewhat radioactive. The safety-deposit boxes were taken out 23 years ago and paid for in cash. They have no more leads. Dunham wants to know more on Lugo. Dunham and Peter go investigate Lugo’s best friend at a bar in Cambridge. They get a lead. Drew says that he hung around a VA hospital. She phones Broyles. Peter dares Dunham to drink. He shows her a few magic tricks. Dunham can count cards. She’s got a thing for numbers. She recites the numbers of the safety-deposit boxes. Peter knows those numbers. The numbers are the Fibonacci sequence. The safety-deposit boxes are Walter’s. He can’t remember why he put things into safety-deposit boxes. He doesn’t even know what he put in them. They all leave to see Charlie Francis. Francis thinks that Bishop is a nut job.

Broyles says that Lugo moved to DC and went to the VA hospital there. No visitors were allowed.

It’s funny how Bishop keeps forgetting Aster’s name.

The crew is heading to Providence. One of them saw that Loeb had a map of Frankfurt, Germany out on his desk.

Sharpe is told that Scott’s brainwave becomes erratic. They think that some of Scott’s memories are in Dunham’s mind. That’s the last image that was recorded on his optic nerve.

Dunham pays a visit to Dr. Miller. She wants to ask him questions about Lugo. A nurse tells her that Lugo liked to play chess with four guys. He tells her their names. Robert Norton and Evan McNeil are two of them.

The crew moves out. One of them is suffering from acute radiation poisoning. Dunham learns that the next bank is in Providence. Peter knows how to question his dad. He finds out which bank Walter used. The case is already gone. Dunham thinks that they came up through the sewer. The crew is already leaving. Francis finds them and starts to shoot. Dunham is in hot pursuit. One of the men falls out of the truck and is shot in the leg by Dunham.

Loeb shows them what they have been stealing. It looks like a strange camera or looking glass.

Jones gets his things. He tells Cole to return tomorrow with the appeal papers. He wants his people to procure them Olivia Dunham. Dunham is questioning Ryan Eastwick. All he gives is his serial number. Peter thinks that Eastwick is looking jittery. Peter has got an idea. Eastwick was hired by a guy. He doesn’t know his name. They are going to some field in Westford. Dunham thinks she knows an airfield in that region. It’s called Little Hill Field. It’s abandoned. That’s the codeword that Joseph Smith gave to David Robert Jones, the guy from the German prison.

Bishop designed a device to reach back into time and retrieve someone. The device is what is stored in the safety-deposit boxes. Before he could test it, he didn’t need it anymore to cure Peter, who was sick from a bird flu named Hepia. Bishop wanted to use it to retrieve a doctor who knew how to cure it.

Dunham and Francis are going to the location. The crew is on location. Cole is killed by Jones. He takes his clothes and gets ready to make his escape. Dunham gets captured by some men working for Jones. The machine focuses on Jones and teleports him to Loeb’s location. That was the gambit.

Broyles tells Sharpe that Dunham was abducted.
