I have to say that the season premiere of Sanctuary impressed me quite a bit. From on online show, Sanctuary has developed a lot. The show has a lot more money poured into it. Plus, the story is just getting interesting, with Magnus and her acolytes fighting the Cabal.

The premiere impressed me enough to want to write something up for it. I watched all of last season while it was being aired, and I really enjoyed where the end of the season was heading. The Sanctuary is a place where all abnormals can go to seek Sanctuary from the modern world. Abnormals come in all different types, from vampires to Yeti. I know that it sounds a bit stupid, but the show matured well into its new TV format, especially towards the end of last season.

This season is no different. Well, actually it is, but things just keep getting better. We’ve got a dark conspiracy, a kidnapped daughter that’s been brainwashed, and the Sanctuary team trying to right wrongs.

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

Ashley has been taken by the Cabal and they have her on drugs. The person in charge wants the experiments to start. She wants to improve Ashley. Already, the true blood has given her teleportation abilities like her father John.

Magnus and John are searching for her, but they are coming up empty. Will is minding the fort while they are gone. Claire, his girlfriend, is at the London Sanctuary. Henry gets news that Ashley has broken into a secure data farm of Interpol in Montreal, Québec. She has stolen 200 petabytes of data. Will poses as a senior analyst and gets access, thanks to Magnus’ connections. This leads him to printouts of the data which Ashley stole.

It turns out that 25 years ago, the British government was experimenting on 6 orphans. They wanted to make them genetically perfect, wiping out all of their genetic imperfections. Magnus was brought in to advise and recommended them to stop their program, as it was too reminiscent of the Nazi eugenics program.

The Cabal must be after these people. Four have already gone missing. They manage to snag one, but the last one is taken by an enterprising freelancer named Kate. Kate gets her prison away, but gets captured. She doesn’t tell them much, except that there is a Cabal holding facility in Alberta. She makes her escape, but the Cabal has put a price on her head.

The team goes to Alberta, only to find the modified Ashley waiting for them. She’s part vampire, part abnormal. She demonstrates her ability to teleport, to grow claws and spout fangs. John teleports them all away before it gets ugly.

Nicola Tesla and Magnus brainstorm. They deduce that the Cabal wants to use the kidnapped people to copy the mods they incorporated into Ashely. They’d have 6 super powered abnormals under their complete control.

Unbeknownst to them, the Cabal has put these people together in order to exterminate all of the Sanctuaries.
