I have to say that the season premiere of Sanctuary impressed me quite a bit. From on online show, Sanctuary has developed a lot. The show has a lot more money poured into it. Plus, the story is just getting interesting, with Magnus and her acolytes fighting the Cabal.
The premiere impressed me enough to want to write something up for it. I watched all of last season while it was being aired, and I really enjoyed where the end of the season was heading. The Sanctuary is a place where all abnormals can go to seek Sanctuary from the modern world. Abnormals come in all different types, from vampires to Yeti. I know that it sounds a bit stupid, but the show matured well into its new TV format, especially towards the end of last season.
This season is no different. Well, actually it is, but things just keep getting better. We’ve got a dark conspiracy, a kidnapped daughter that’s been brainwashed, and the Sanctuary team trying to right wrongs.
Warning: Spoilers ahead.

The last episode was really good, but this one wasn’t as good. Anyway, the whole premise of this episode is annoying really. Hopefully, the next episodes will be better.

Magnus wakes up in the Sanctuary mansion. It looks like decades have past and the world is in ruins. She leaves the mansion. Something is stalking her. There is some kind of swirling dust. She fashions a spear. She gets attacked by an abnormal with a strange tongue that has a dart. Some soldiers in biological warfare suits capture her and decontaminate her. She meets Will. He tells her that Magnus died 3 years ago in the Battle of Buenos Aires. He looks pretty rugged.
My guess is that she’s dreaming. The abnormals attack. Magnus escapes. She’s got one of the pulse guns. She meets a young girl names Jessica Mitchell back at the Sanctuary.
Magnus goes through some video archives and finds out that some kind of outbreak happened. Will shambles back in. He’s been wounded. She says that the last thing that she recalls is some kind of mission in Central America. He says that it was a new kind of plague. Within a year, millions had turned. It affected humans and abnormals. They fed on anything. The government started pulling tactical nukes. There are about 100K left uninfected. There is a colony in the Arctic, there are also a few colonies on remote islands. It turns out that Jessica was infected somehow.
Magnus says that she remembers. She went to Honduras 10 years ago to research the Mayan kings. They were abnormals with very long life spans, just like her. In the legends, they developed some kind of elixir that would give them a normal human life span. I don’t get it, if she wanted to die, why didn’t she just off herself?
She thinks that the contagion that wiped out the Mayans is the same that wiped out humanity. Will has to put Jessica down. Magnus’ treatment didn’t work. Will reveals that he was infected as well. They make their last stand in the sanctuary. Will says that he has a son with Kate. Kate is dead. Their son, Magnus is in the Arctic colony.
She remembers going to some Maya tomb and opening a vial. There is a swirling light around her. She realizes that she was patient zero. The dream stops and she goes back to the Mayan tomb. Some kind of spirit is guarding the vial. He won’t let her destroy it.
