24 Day 8 1PM-2PM S08E22 (Fox)

Cast of 24 Day 8, image via Wikipedia

After a somewhat lukewarm and disappointing season 7, 24 is back with another season. It’s been a while since we saw Jack Bauer and it looks like he’s fully recovered from his ordeal from the end of last season.

Jack is living it up with his family. He’s fully reconciled with Kim and her husband and he’s spending time with his granddaughter Terri, who looks like she’s about 4. One of the biggest mistakes of the screenwriters in the last season was coming up with a fictional African country. It’s really bad that they did this. They’ve done it again with this season. This season features an Islamic republic named Kamistan. WTF you imbeciles? Didn’t you guys learn anything from last season?

This is why Spooks is so much more entertaining because it’s more realistic. I’m kind of annoyed that they’ve done it again this time around. Still, it’s good to see Jack at it again. There was another thing that kind of annoyed me. Chloe is having trouble with the new CTU systems. She’s been back a month and has trouble learning them. It’s really surprising and doesn’t make much sense, since Chloe has always been the über-analyst of this season.

There are some interesting additions in the cast. Katee Sackhoff is most intriguing. She plays another analyst, who’s involved with an agent named Cole.

Warning: spoilers ahead.

This season of 24 isn’t bad. I’m entertained. It’s kind of funny how Jack gets roped into things once more. President Taylor isn’t so annoying anymore. Maybe that’s because we see less of her. I did enjoy how she made it clear to Hassan that if a bomb detonates on US soil, she will have to retaliate.

So Jack knows that Logan is involved. Meanwhile, Logan is being recognized by Taylor by her press secretary. The actress playing the press secretary is really bad. She has trouble going through her lines.

Pillar tells Logan that Bauer and Reed are MIA. Pillar says that the story will come out. He wants Logan to pull out, to extricate himself.

He didn’t just kill him. He beat him savagely and eviscerated him.

Logan tries to convince Taylor to muzzle Reed’s publisher. Logan handed Taylor the tools to dig her own grave. Taylor talks to Tim Woods at DHS. She wants to stop Reed. Woods has his reservations but will do as he’s told.

Arlo has footage from Pillar’s team. They see what Jack did to Pavel. Chloe finds Jim, who’s supposed to be dead.

Jim finds out that he was tracing Logan’s number. He isn’t happy about it, but sends the info to Jack. Jack told Reed to publish the story in case he doesn’t make it. Jack steals a car and gets busy.

Reed calls Clausner, her editor.

The Russian minister is panicking. He’s on the phone with Logan. Logan says that CTU’s orders have been upgraded to shoot on sight so there’s no need to worry.

Meanwhile, Jack is getting ready for his operation, which includes a handy wetwork-ops mask. He’s going after Logan, who’s panicking. After taking down a few Secret Service agents, Bauer goes after the limousine. He fires a few bullets into the windshield, enough to shatter it partially, and drops in a smoke grenade. Logan gets out. Bauer takes him. CTU is told about this. Chloe goes to see the Pillar people. Pillar finds exit point. They go after him. None of the Secret Service agents are dead, they are just injured.

Logan talks. He says that he sent the Russians after him, but he didn’t kill Renee. He had nothing to do with the terrorist attack. Logan says that Mikhail Novakovitch is the man in the Russian delegation. Bauer hears them coming. Jack puts the sleeper hold on Logan. Pillar finds Logan. Jack’s gone.

Reed is waiting to meet Clauser. Instead, he phones the coffee shop. He says that the FBI is here. He tells her to hide the evidence and lay low. Ortiz is being released into Chloe’s custody. She needs him to go after Jim.

Jack goes after Novakovitch. He’s got a shotgun and some intel from his driver, who’s either VFR or ex-KGB. Jack gets stabbed by one of the security agents. He goes up to see Novakovitch.

Reed calls Kyla. She tells her that the Russians murdered her father. FBI arrest Reed right after she ends the phonecall. I don’t know what’s going on. For a reporter, Reed is a fossil, when it comes to technology. As soon as the shit hit the fan with Clauser, I would have uploaded the video to YouTube, Vimeo, and other online services. I’d have spread the word. The video would have gone viral and it would have been impossible to stop it. Also, I would have written a few blog posts.

Woods tells Taylor that the FBI has secured Reed and the datacard.

Logan tells Pillar that he needs to warn Novakovitch. Bauer knows. It’s already too late. Bauer has impaled Novakovitch. Everyone is dead. One of the guards tells Pillar that Bauer was injured. Logan calls Subarov. Bauer has no idea that Novakovitch was operating under Subarov’s direct orders. Logan only told him as much to save his own skin. Logan doesn’t know that Jack planted a bug on Logan. He’s recording the conversation right now. This is awesome. Jack is bleeding all over the place.
