I’ve been a Nathan Fillion fan for quite a while. Ever since Firefly, I was really impressed by his acting. Since he is starring in a new series named Castle, I took it upon myself to watch it weekly.
Anyway, what do I like about Castle? Well it stars an obnoxious, womanizing novelist. Detective Kate Beckett is a closet hottie, played by Stana Katic. Her hotness is kind of hard to explain. The actress is quite hot, but in Castle, she toned it down. She doesn’t wear much makeup and favors a natural look, kind of like “Oh I’m hot, but I could be the girl next door, BTW, FYI, I’m still smoking hot.” That’s how I described her in my mind. She’s kind of got the ex-catwalk model look going for her, which is quite good.
So that’s a good point. Plus she’s Canadian and a good actress. That’s always a good combination.
Warning: spoilers ahead
The show centers around a novelist who is brought in to help deal with a string of murders which seem to be taken from the pages of his novels. At the same time, Castle has hit massive writer’s block after killing off the hero of his mystery book franchise, Derek Storm. Through Beckett, he is able to write once again.
Halfway between a drama and a romantic comedy, Castle is a fun show to watch. The characters play around a lot, making the viewer wonder when or if they will ever get together. It didn’t take Castle long to find out what makes Beckett tick. He uses clues and his imagination deftly.
ABC has started to release chapters of Richard Castle’s new book Heat Wave on its website. They are up to chapter 8 and I haven’t started yet, but it’s a pretty cool tie-in to the show.

Castle’s ex-wife comes by to pick up Martha and Alexis for some manicures and pedicures.
An extra body was found in a casket. The stowaway is Dr. Mallory Monroe.
She finished her shift at 6PM. She was looking for a hotel room in Katonah, NY. The cause of death isn’t apparent yet. Every morning, Monroe bought coffee on the other side of the city. The vic was injected. The killer injected air into her bloodstream, causing an air embolism. It was probably done by someone with medical training.
Castle learns that Beckett’s new boyfriend is a cardiac surgeon. The male nurse is pretty popular with the women on staff. He’s got an alibi.
6 months ago, Monroe started paying off her student loan with $10K a week. Her student loans were over $400K.
Monroe was spending time with a drug lord. She was probably his mistress. The drug lord is a fan of Castle’s work.
Everything is better in Spanish.
Drug lord
Monroe was his concierge physician. The drug lord’s brother says that he knows the man in the photo. He saw her meeting him in a dinner a few times. The guy is with the DA’s office. She was working for him undercover. The DA was investigating the hospital for medical fraud. She wanted to check stuff up before giving the evidence to the investigator. There is a women’s prison in Katonah.
Nurse Greg made a weekly visit to Amy Porter. She’s doing 30 years for a robbery where a security guard died. He’s been visiting her for three years. This morning, Amy Porter had a heart attack. She’s been brought to the hospital. She died. Greg switched the bodies. This was about a prison break. Amy Porter is in the wind.
Greg forged friendships with medical staff to get the supplies he needed to break Amy Porter out. A drug was used to simulate a stroke. In the hospital, an MRI was ordered. In the MRI, he gave Amy morphine. It created the illusion of death. Amy had a DNR. He then injected her with a stimulant that awoke her.
Castle surmises that they went to the first place they went. Then, he dismisses it but Beckett posted some state troopers there. They arrest the lovebirds a few hours later.
Greg says that he didn’t kill Monroe. He says that she was fishing for info, trying to piece things together. He accelerated his plans to get Amy out. Greg says that Monroe has a boyfriend.
Monroe was wearing a bracelet, but she didn’t have it when she died. Castle places the bracelet that they see in a security photo. It brings them back to the former drug lord. He gave it to Monroe. He says that it was part of a matching set. The bracelet belonged to his mother and his father had a matching necklace. While they talk to him, Calderone realizes that his brother killed her. He took the keys to the DeVille. The fibres found on her body were from the carpet of a DeVille.
Beckett had the case against Amy reopened. There were serious discrepancies in the case. If she is exonerated, the DA will give Greg probation.
