I’ve been a Nathan Fillion fan for quite a while. Ever since Firefly, I was really impressed by his acting. Since he is starring in a new series named Castle, I took it upon myself to watch it weekly.
Anyway, what do I like about Castle? Well it stars an obnoxious, womanizing novelist. Detective Kate Beckett is a closet hottie, played by Stana Katic. Her hotness is kind of hard to explain. The actress is quite hot, but in Castle, she toned it down. She doesn’t wear much makeup and favors a natural look, kind of like “Oh I’m hot, but I could be the girl next door, BTW, FYI, I’m still smoking hot.” That’s how I described her in my mind. She’s kind of got the ex-catwalk model look going for her, which is quite good.
So that’s a good point. Plus she’s Canadian and a good actress. That’s always a good combination.
Warning: spoilers ahead
The show centers around a novelist who is brought in to help deal with a string of murders which seem to be taken from the pages of his novels. At the same time, Castle has hit massive writer’s block after killing off the hero of his mystery book franchise, Derek Storm. Through Beckett, he is able to write once again.
Halfway between a drama and a romantic comedy, Castle is a fun show to watch. The characters play around a lot, making the viewer wonder when or if they will ever get together. It didn’t take Castle long to find out what makes Beckett tick. He uses clues and his imagination deftly.
ABC has started to release chapters of Richard Castle’s new book Heat Wave on its website. They are up to chapter 8 and I haven’t started yet, but it’s a pretty cool tie-in to the show.

Some girl is found with an ax in her back on the set of a TV show. Her name was Sarah Cutler. She was a writer for the soap opera. They tell the cops about a blogger. Her name was Carrie Edwards. Beckett is a fan. The blogger has an alibi. Ryan finds out that Sarah was separated from her husband, who’s the director. He’s got an alibi. He was sleeping with Mandy Bronson, the star of Temptation Island. She got an email from Sarah and left.
Martha shows up to help out. Beckett and Castle check the email and it turns out that Sarah was writing Mandy off the show. She must have discovered about the affair. She has an alibi. Vince has got an alibi. Sarah was going to some mystery appointments. She was going to a coffee shop. She was meeting a man. He wants his money. His name is Johnny Dimes, a PI. He was hired to investigate Gloria Chambers. He discovered that Gloria wasn’t Sarah’s birth mom. The woman was a con artist. Esposito brings Gloria in. She was arrested trying to buy a ticket to the Bahamas. Gloria also has got an alibi. She mentions a new man in Sarah’s life who was wooing her with fancy jewellery. He gave her earrings that were worth $10K. Lance Hastings bought them. Lance charged a cab ride to the studio the night of the murder. Hastings was trying to get out of his contract with the studio to guest-star in a movie. He went to the studio to thank her.
Castle realizes who the killer is. He writes a scene for the soap opera. They shoot it with the actors. It’s supposed to expose the killer. The killer is the assistant. The assistant read the barista’s script and ripped it off. She killed Sarah to keep a lid on her plagiarism.
