I’ve been a Nathan Fillion fan for quite a while. Ever since Firefly, I was really impressed by his acting. Since he is starring in a new series named Castle, I took it upon myself to watch it weekly.
Anyway, what do I like about Castle? Well it stars an obnoxious, womanizing novelist. Detective Kate Beckett is a closet hottie, played by Stana Katic. Her hotness is kind of hard to explain. The actress is quite hot, but in Castle, she toned it down. She doesn’t wear much makeup and favors a natural look, kind of like “Oh I’m hot, but I could be the girl next door, BTW, FYI, I’m still smoking hot.” That’s how I described her in my mind. She’s kind of got the ex-catwalk model look going for her, which is quite good.
So that’s a good point. Plus she’s Canadian and a good actress. That’s always a good combination.

The show centers around a novelist who is brought in to help deal with a string of murders which seem to be taken from the pages of his novels. At the same time, Castle has hit massive writer’s block after killing off the hero of his mystery book franchise, Derek Storm. Through Beckett, he is able to write once again.
Halfway between a drama and a romantic comedy, Castle is a fun show to watch. The characters play around a lot, making the viewer wonder when or if they will ever get together. It didn’t take Castle long to find out what makes Beckett tick. He uses clues and his imagination deftly.
ABC has started to release chapters of Richard Castle’s new book Heat Wave on its website. They are up to chapter 8 and I haven’t started yet, but it’s a pretty cool tie-in to the show.

Some beauty contestants are dancing for some kind of a show. One of them is found dead on a lighting truss.
Ashley got accepted everywhere. Alexis is conflicted.
Amber Middleberry is the deceased. She was choked from behind with her own sash. She died between 11PM and 1AM. She was last seen alive last night. She was alive at 10:43PM when she checked in. The killer might have left a black sequin. Her only family is her father, who’s devastated. They meet Baron, the famous guy behind the pageant.
They are interviewing the beauty queens. One of them heard a fight between Amber and some guy. It sounded like he was her boyfriend. Her dad didn’t know anything about her boyfriend. They question Justin, her pageant consultant.
On the video tapes, Esposito and Ryan spot that Bobby Starks was somewhat lecherous with Amber. She gave him a look of disgust. There have been 3 restraining orders against Bobby Starks in the last year. He bought them off. His jacket matches the black sequins. He doesn’t have an alibi.
Ashley was going to go to a school in NYC therefore Alexis broke up with him because Stanford was his dream.
Bobby Starks alibies out, so he’s not the killer. They recover Amber’s stolen violin and find Miss Georgia’s prints on it. She admits to stealing the violin to throw Amber off. Inside the case, she found some naked photos of Amber. Amber was being blackmailed. They find out that the photos were taken 6 months ago. The shoot was booked by some photographer. She was there with an annoying boyfriend. His boyfriend was Jeremy. She broke up with him last year.
Ashley comes by to see Castle. He decided to go to Stanford, but Alexis won’t answer his calls. He wants Castle’s help. Castle talks with Alexis.
Jeremy moved to NYC last month. They find him dead in his room. He was killed half a day before Amber. His HD was wiped. Someone didn’t want the photos to see the light of day. Castle thinks that Jeremy might have had a partner.
They realize where the photos were taken. They were taken in Baron’s house in the Hamptons. They talk with him. Baron says that Amber was blackmailing him. Her boyfriend took the photos. They were in it together. He told Candace. He asked her to take care of the problem. She was with Bobby Starks the night of the murder. They realize that Justin was lying to them. He killed them.
Montgomery tells the squad that he gave his wife the fact that he’ll retire next year. Beckett tells him that Montgomery keeps retiring.
Castle learns that Alexis is applying to Stanford. She’s got enough credits to graduate by the fall, so she’ll join Ashley in January.
