I didn’t expect much of this show and wasn’t disappointed. It’s quite a teenage stinker, and that’s probably down the fact that I’m not a teenage girl, infatuated with Twilight. This Twilight rip-off reminds me of Anne Rice. When she ran out of stuff to write about vampires, she started writing about witches. It’s funny how all of these shows/books/movies are alike. A young girl moves to a new town and finds out about her strange powers/heritage. Basically, this is what the show is about. While it was pretty bad, I had fun writing the review. I’m not sure that I’ll watch it again. It’s a bit mind-numbing, stupid, and boring. Unlike other stupid shows, this one does take itself seriously. The whole witch thing is really badly designed in this show as well.
Warning: Spoilers ahead
A young girl is driving her mom’s car and gets in a bit of trouble with a reckless driver. She phones her mom and changes her flat tire, while the reckless driver drives on ahead to kill her mother. The driver killed the mom using magic.
The story picks up a month later. Cassie is in Chance Harbor, WA now. I guess since The Vampire Diaries were moderately successful, CW needed another supernatural teen drama. She moves in with her grandma. Her mom moved away from the town when her husband died, about the same time that Cassie was born.
There’s a magical peeping Tom about. He wanted to check out Cassie’s rack.
The principal at Cassie’s new high school is Natasha Henstridge. Nice. Two dudes are already looking for Cassie. They look a bit moody, kind of like the Salvatore brothers in The Vampire Diaries. Up till now, the premise is sort of a *Twilight* rip off, as expected. The weird girl also is a witch. She opens Cassie’s locker.
After school, Cassie meets moody boy #2, Adam. His dad loved her mom but she chose her dad. The weird girls arrive. They are Melissa and Faye. Faye is the principal’s daughter. Cassie ditches them when they get in her face. Faye messes with Cassie’s car using magic. She puts it on fire. She wants Cassie to put it out with her “powers”. Adam puts it out with his magical powers. I guess everyone is a magician in this show.
Cassie’s savior Adam is Cassie’s friend’s boyfriend. Oh no, what will she do now? He’s been with Diana for 3 years. Diana goes to see Faye. They are all witches. Diana is the ringleader of this witch’s coven. These kids are acting all annoyingly grownup. WTF.
Cassie runs into Charles, her mother’s killer. He’s Diana’s dad.
The grandma is a witch and she’s talking to the principal. She wants to know if the kids are practicing magic again. The principal denies that they are practicing magic. The grandma doesn’t believe her.
Diana takes Cassie into the woods to an abandoned home. This is where their secret coven meets. Yippe! Faye and Melissa are there already. Moody dude #1 is there. He’s Nick. There’s also Adam. Faye is giving a knowing smile. Faye tells her that she’s a witch. They have a grimorium and practice spells. Their coven isn’t complete. They need 6. Wait, I thought a witch’s coven needed 13 witches? Anyway, they want to do a ritual to bind themselves together to be more powerful. Yeah! Sounds right up Cassie’s alley. Cassie runs off. Adam finds her quickly. Wow, it doesn’t take her long to start doing some magic. With a bit of prodding and Adam’s help, they make a drop of water float. Nope, they make a shitload of drops of water float. They almost kiss, but then Cassie runs off again.
Adam’s dad tells Cassie that her father was a bad man. Charlie arrives. He stops him from saying much. Adam pops in and Cassie does another runner.
Faye is strutting her stuff. She wants to go more magic. She puts out some lights and calls forth a storm.
Diana tells Cassie that their parents all died in some magic they did as part of their circle. The ones who survived are trying to keep it from the young ones.
Faye’s storm grows out of control. Diana wants her to stop, but she can’t. Wow, their spells are really shitty. They just say “make it stop” and the storm stops. Actually, Cassie does it for them because neither of them could do diddly squat. Cassie tells them that she doesn’t want any part of their coven.
Charlie comes to kill Ethan. No, he makes him drown on dry land but it’s only a warning. He’s not dead.
Adam comes to see Cassie. He wants to say that he’s sorry about their almost-kiss. “It can’t happen again.” But we know it will.
Charlie comes to see the principal. The principal is the leader of the coven. She’s the head witch.
Back in her bedroom, Cassie discovers her family’s spell book. There’s a letter for her from her mom.
