It took some time, but I’m glad that we managed to see Terra Nova. The pilot had been delayed for a while, ever since last May. I didn’t expect much, since I don’t really keep apprised of the latest TV news, but I was happily surprised with the pilot. The setting is quite interesting. While the future 2149 setting isn’t really that important, it set the mood nicely. It was a sort of Big Brother-like future, where people weren’t allowed to have many children and the Earth was becoming non-sustainable for human life. The time fracture, opening 85 million years into the past, allows different pilgrimages to settle in healthy biosphere, but populated by dinosaurs. I like the fact that this isn’t the same timeline as before. They entered another worldine, which is the only way that this could make sense.
Warning: Spoilers ahead.

This episode was better than the last one. Some Sixer kid is rescued but she’s more than she seems. Mira sent her to retrieve a mysterious box, but in the end, the kid wants to stay at Terra Nova.

They find some kid on the other side of the gates. She looks feral and she’s very afraid. No one knows how to deal with the kid, except super mom Liz. She ran away from the Sixers.
Her name is Lea Marcos, and Taylor remembers her. She wants to visit her gran on the other side, but learns that the portal is only one-way. The Shannons take her in until she can be permanently placed.
Wash goes looking for the kid’s bag. They find it. They get almost taken out by Sixers with bolas. They remind me of the Others from *Lost*. Mira is there to tip the scales.
Two rovers filled with Sixers arrive at the gates. Lea thinks that they have come for her. They’ve got two hostages. The mole must have tipped them off. Mira thinks that they abducted the girl. Taylor wants his people freed and wants Lea to decide for herself.
Shannon brings Lea out. Lea says that she isn’t going back with the Sixers. Mira’s words are at odds with her actions. She came out guns blazing, only to tell Lea that she meant nothing to her. Obviously, there’s something about Lea.
Lea is an orphan. She tells Taylor that Mira keeps the Sixers moving around.
Instead of going to school, Lea goes to Mira’s old place to retrieve something hidden. They find her. She had some kind of container on her. Lea reveals that Mira has got her brother hostage.
Reynolds asks Maddy out for a date. He goes about it in a pretty old fashioned way. He asked Jim for permission to court Maddy.
Jim goes outside the gates to check up on Sam, Lea’s brother. He naturally gets caught by the Sixers. Mira tells Jim that Taylor pissed off a lot of people in 2149. They want him gone. Terra Nova isn’t about starting over. They’ve got her daughter Sienna in 2149. If she does her job, she’ll get to see her again.
Mira lets him leave with Sam. Jim keeps what Mira said to himself for now. Taylor hands the box to Malcolm, who hasn’t got any idea how to open it.
