Castle Demons S04E06 (ABC)

I’ve been a Nathan Fillion fan for quite a while. Ever since Firefly, I was really impressed by his acting. Since he is starring in a new series named Castle, I took it upon myself to watch it weekly.

Anyway, what do I like about Castle? Well it stars an obnoxious, womanizing novelist. Detective Kate Beckett is a closet hottie, played by Stana Katic. Her hotness is kind of hard to explain. The actress is quite hot, but in Castle, she toned it down. She doesn’t wear much makeup and favors a natural look, kind of like “Oh I’m hot, but I could be the girl next door, BTW, FYI, I’m still smoking hot.” That’s how I described her in my mind. She’s kind of got the ex-catwalk model look going for her, which is quite good.

So that’s a good point. Plus she’s Canadian and a good actress. That’s always a good combination.

Warning: spoilers ahead

The show centers around a novelist who is brought in to help deal with a string of murders which seem to be taken from the pages of his novels. At the same time, Castle has hit massive writer’s block after killing off the hero of his mystery book franchise, Derek Storm. Through Beckett, he is able to write once again.

Halfway between a drama and a romantic comedy, Castle is a fun show to watch. The characters play around a lot, making the viewer wonder when or if they will ever get together. It didn’t take Castle long to find out what makes Beckett tick. He uses clues and his imagination deftly.

ABC has started to release chapters of Richard Castle’s new book Heat Wave on its website. They are up to chapter 8 and I haven’t started yet, but it’s a pretty cool tie-in to the show.

The fourth season just started and needless to say that Beckett is still alive, although she’s different. The precinct is different too, thanks to a new female Captain. Breckett was incommunicado for a while, but when she comes back she’s surprised to learn that the investigation was shut down by Gates and that it made no progress. Castle helps her out, and they are warned by a man who received Montgomery’s files to stop investigating Beckett’s mother’s murder. It doesn’t stop Castle from continuing the investigation on his own.

The show starts with some amateur ghostbuster screaming for mercy.

Castle and Beckett are called to some case involving the Ghost Wranglers, a rip-off of some Discovery or Syfy show (both networks have shows named Ghost Hunters and Ghosthunters respectively). The victim is the chief ghost wrangler himself, Jack Sinclair.

His throat was slit from ear to ear. There are no footprints in the blood on the scene. The spatter is completely unobstructed.

They check the feed of the camera. They see Jack calling out for mercy. It sounds like it was Mercy with a capital M, not mercy. Jack had an argument with his cameraman earlier today. His name is Barry Bavetta.

He has been racking up charges at a strip club. They talk with him. Jack was jealous because Barry did the research on the haunted mansion. Jack is weird about NYC. He was trying to catch a flight, so he’s got an alibi.

Jack arrived upset at the mansion. On the footage, Ryan discovers that the tripod moved by itself.

In all of the murder cases at the mansion, people talked about demons.

Jack used to live near the mansion and tried to avoid it at all costs.

CSI finds prints of Ron Berger at the scene. He has a rap sheet and has history with the Ghost Wrangler. A segment was done on him while he was in prison because he complained about a molesting ghost. It made him the laughingstock of the prison. He wrote a threatening letter. Jack wanted Ron to take pictures inside the McClaren house.

Castle and Ryan talk to some of the previous tenants. They talked to Mercy Lagrande, a super ghost hunter. She’s got a long rap sheet. Her business is on the same corner where Jack caught a cab.

Castle and Beckett talk to Mercy. He started having dreams. It turns out that Jack started to remembering something that happened in the house. The last murder was 20 years ago. Jack was there the night the woman died. He recovered the memory right before dying.

Melanie Benton was sliced up in the McLaren house in 1991. Jack Sinclair was 11.

The original detective thinks that Matt Benton, Melanie’s husband is the killer. They put out an APB, but he got away. The last news was that he was spotted 15 years ago in Europe. He sent postcards from Vienna to his brother, saying that a demon was involved.

A week before he died, Jack called the law firm that Benton’s brother worked at. They think that Benton is back in the country.

I think that either I’ve had too much wine or not enough.
Beckett

Castle thinks that the McClaren house has a hidden alcove, something that the Scottish architect might have put in.

Beckett says I ain’t afraid of no ghosts before the theme music to *Ghostbusters* plays. They leave to check the McClaren house for the alcove. They find it. They find a magnetic field generator, which made the light flicker, erase the video, and move the tripod. Castle surmises that Matt Benton has been living here for the last 20 years. They find another body. It’s more of a skeleton. It’s Matt Benton and he’s dead. He died about 20 years ago. The killer fled and made the police think that Benton was the culprit.

They take a look at Pete Benton again. He reveals that his brother thought that Melanie was cheating on him.

The lightbulb in the secret room was new and they trace it back to Steve Fuller, the owner of the McClaren house. They tell Fuller that they will be going through a wall tomorrow. They use it as bait. Someone goes to the house. It’s not Fuller, it’s Detective Smith. He was the affair. He killed Melanie.

Smith gets caught.
