We all know that humanoid robots roaming the streets aren’t that far away, but there are still plenty of kinks to be worked out of the designs. The AMBER 2 Robot does its best to emulate human foot movements, with the goal of making a machine that can walk on all sorts of terrain.

Amber Captured Cretaceous Period Spider Attacking a Wasp

This is the only fossil ever discovered that shows a spider attacking prey in its web. Preserved in amber, it’s about 100 million years old. (Photo courtesy of Oregon State University)

A Cretaceous period juvenile spider was trapped in amber before it could devour a male wasp caught in its web. This is the first time that such a scene has been found in the fossil record.

230 Million Year Old Arthropods Found Preserved in Amber

Arthropods from the Triassic period have been discovered preserved in amber. They are 100 million years older than previous amber inclusions. The two mites and one fly were found in millimeter-scale droplets of amber from northeastern Italy.
