Twitter’s Vine: AnimationGram

While there have been many different apps that have tried to be what Instagram is to photos but for videos, this new one is backed by Twitter, making it immediately interesting to the Twitterati. Sharing and recording looping vids is nothing new, but the constraints and functions make Vine, which is still a bit buggy, cool to use.

7,000 Sticky Notes Make up This Super Mario Stop-Motion Animation

Sticky notes are a useful office tool. I can’t get enough of them, and after years of use I don’t know how many I’ve used. However, I can’t say that I’ve ever seen this many sticky notes used in a single animation.

Vincent Van Dominogh’s Starry Night: Falling Skies

If there’s one painting that I’m obsessed about, it’s Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night. If the iPad app wasn’t enough for you, check out FlippyCat’s project, that he aptly named Vincent Van Dominogh’s Starry Night. It kind of makes sense that he used dominoes because their movement seems to capture the movement of the wind in the painting.

NASA Makes Earth’s Oceans Look like Van Gogh’s Starry Night

This incredible visualization of the Earth and its oceans was created by the Scientific Visualization Studio at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. It’s called Perpetual Ocean and allows the visualization of the surface of the oceans over a 30-month period, between June 2005 and December 2007.

Van Gogh’s Starry Night: Version 2.0

The Starry Night has always been one of my favorite painting by Vincent Van Gogh. The awesomeness of the painting is particularly evident when you pay close attention to the intricate swirling patterns of wind in the sky. Now, it looks The Starry Night just got upgraded to version 2.0. It’s now become an interactive panel.

Cinemagram: Like Instagram for Animated GIFs

There has been a revival of interest in animated GIFs since you can make some fun stylized animations with them. Some of the more recent stuff is pretty interesting, which is probably why the Cinemagram app was just released for iOS devices. It allows you to easily create animated GIFs and share them directly from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

Doctor Who Pixel Animations by Lucie Patron

To celebrate the fact that Doctor Who started up again last Saturday, it’s only fitting that we find these cute little animated GIFs that Lucie Patron made. Well, technically they aren’t GIFs, they are Flash files, but they’re basically done to look like pixelated animated GIFs.
