DARPA ARGUS-IS 1.8 Gigapixel Camera: Enough Resolution for Ya?

There are plenty of drones hovering overhead, but I have to say that mounting one of these ultra-high resolution cameras on one will make them very useful for Big Brother. Pretty soon, they’ll be able to spot what you’re having for breakfast from 20,000 feet in the air.

Lomo-Copter: The Artsy, Hipster Drone

There was some uproar about the possibility of using unarmed drones over US soil to locate that cop turned killer fugitive, but maybe that’s because drones have a bad rap because of all of the bombs they’ve been known to drop. Now, engineers at FliteTest are trying to make a kinder, gentler drone, the kind that captures artsy images.

Trygger Camera Clip Aims to Improve iPhone Photos in a Snap

Smartphones make reasonably adequate cameras, especially if all you want is to capture some photos of your family and daily life. However, one thing that iPhonetographers will quickly find limiting are the optics included in their cameras. There’s not much you can do about improving them, unless you use some sort of add-on lens or filter.

It’s been confirmed that Polaroid will unveil an Android-powered, mirrorless, interchangeable-lens camera, at CES 2013. While I would have liked for Polaroid to announce that they will continue making old-school instant cameras, this isn’t bad news.

GoPro Camera Survives 12,500-Foot Fall!

I’ve heard of cameras being rugged, but surviving a 12,500-foot drop is quite impressive. A skydiver apparently lost his GoPro camera on the way down and it managed to survive the fall, in fact, well enough to record its owner’s landing a few minutes later.

Lomography Diana Baby 110: This Lomo Fits in the Palm of Your Hand

What’s there not to love about Lomography and their various low-fi cameras. Sure, your smartphone probably has nicer resolution, but the analog flavor of these little cameras is hard to beat, even with Instagram’s retro effect filters.

It’s only when you take a lot of photos that you realize that the camera sensor on your phone might not be good enough for every situation. The Nikon COOLPIX S01 hasn’t got the biggest sensor, but it’s diminuitive size will make it easy to carry around as an adjunct to your smartphone’s camera.
