Augmented/virtual reality headsets are nothing new, but Canon will finally throw its hat into the ring by launching its MREAL augmented reality HMD system in the USA on March 1st. Sadly though, unless you’re a developer or have plenty of cash to burn, you won’t be using one anytime soon.

Who hasn’t dreamed of having heads-up display screens directly embedded into their eyes? I guess years of playing Cyberpunk 2020 and reading science-fiction novels have made this a fixture in most settings. While it won’t make readable contact lens displays feasible any time soon, it looks like scientists have actually been able to make contact lenses with embedded LCDs.

Do you use an extra battery grip for your DSLR? Since they can be kind of bulky anyhow, Irish photographer Dave Hunt managed to squeeze a fully-functioning Raspberry Pi SBC inside his detachable battery grip, and programmed it so that it would push the images he takes to his iPad for easy viewing. Sounds pretty awesome to me.

According to tipsters, patents, and a couple of Japanese websites, it looks like Canon is set to release their first Micro Four-Thirds camera very soon. For now, all that remains are the discovery of the full specs and what the camera actually looks like.

Panasonic just unveiled a new mid-level Micro Four Third camera, the Lumix G DMC-G5. It’s the successor to the popular G3 and packs some cool new features. These kinds of cameras take impressive photos, while being easier to lug around than a full-sized DSLR.

Well they’ve just released information about their new digital instant camera, that includes a printer so that you can print out all of your snapshots wherever you are. The device is pretty compact, so it might be an interesting solution.

The Iris camera concept is a biometrically-enabled and controlled by your eye. The idea behind the camera is that it would use your eyeball to figure out what you are looking at and allows you to capture exactly what you see. It was designed by the Royal College of Art graduate Mimi Zou.

There’s no denying how easy Instagram makes capturing snapshots while on the go. The best part, besides the filters, is the ability to instantly share photos and push them to social networks. However, I’ve come across occasions where uploading then and there is not possible or unsafe. The workaround is an easy one and one that ironically can improve the quality of your Instagrams noticeably…
