Touch Pilot S01E01 (Fox)

Touch promo poster, via Wikipedia

I was initially surprised that Kiefer Sutherland was back on network television, but I have always like 24 so I was actually looking forward to the series on Fox. This series was written and created by Tim Kring, who’s known for Heroes. The series uses some of the techniques from that series, so if you’ve watched Heroes, you’ll feel a familiar when watching this. This series is about a dad struggling with his autistic son, who can see strange patterns in numbers. Everything ends up connected, and Martin Bohm soon discovers this.

While I wanted to like the series, I have to say that I was disappointed, mainly because of the  mathematical elements in the series, which are rudimentary to say the least. It’s definitely not a show aimed at anyone familiar with numbers, patterns, and sequences. That being said, the pilot was watched by over 12 million people and the series was picked up for a full season, so maybe it will improve. I’ll give it a shot to see where it goes, but I wasn’t that impressed.

Warning: spoilers ahead.

Alcatraz Cal Sweeney S01E04 (Fox)

Alcatraz intertitle, via Wikipedia

Alcatraz is J.J. Abrams next show, and it’s currently being broadcast on Fox. The overall setup is eerily similar to Fringe, since it features an FBI task force investigating crimes, however that’s where the similarities end. Although, the show does feature Jorge Garcia from Lost and another blonde female lead, à la Anna Torv, but she’s much younger and starts out as a detective before getting assigned to Hauser and his team.  It turns out that Alcatraz was never closed. The prisoners just vanished and they have started reappearing for some unknown purpose. Each of them accomplishes some task for some nefarious over mind that we’ve yet to meet. The exact mechanics of the transport is unknown, but certain clues point towards wormholes of some kind.

Warning: spoilers ahead.

Terra Nova Occupation Resistance S01E11 (Fox)

Terra Nova billboard via Fox

It took some time, but I’m glad that we managed to see Terra Nova. The pilot had been delayed for a while, ever since last May. I didn’t expect much, since I don’t really keep apprised of the latest TV news, but I was happily surprised with the pilot. The setting is quite interesting. While the future 2149 setting isn’t really that important, it set the mood nicely. It was a sort of Big Brother-like future, where people weren’t allowed to have many children and the Earth was becoming non-sustainable for human life. The time fracture, opening 85 million years into the past, allows different pilgrimages to settle in healthy biosphere, but populated by dinosaurs. I like the fact that this isn’t the same timeline as before. They entered another worldine, which is the only way that this could make sense.

Warning: Spoilers ahead.
