The Walking Dead Pretty Much Dead Already S02E07 (AMC)

The Walking Dead intertitle, via Wikipedia

The Walking Dead tells the story of the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse; it follows a small group of survivors traveling across the desolate USA in search of a new home away from the shuffling hordes of the undead. The group is led by Rick Grimes, who was a police officer in the old world. As their situation grows more and more grim, the group’s desperation to survive pushes them to the brink of humanity. At every turn they are faced with unspeakable horrors, both from those who are dead, and from the scattered remains of a struggling human populace.

I don’t know what it is with the series on AMC, but they definitely have interesting ideas. This show is based upon a comic books, and I enjoyed watching the show. It reminds me of a lot of zombie movies, so it’s not revolutionary, but I did have fun.

Warning: spoilers ahead

Grimm Pilot S01E01 (NBC)

Grimm intertitle, via Wikipedia

The show reminds me of the Jasper Fforde novels, Nursery Crime Division, and although I expected the creatures to be out in the open, once I started watching it I realized that it’s about how they remain hidden from sight from everyone but people of the Grimm family. The protagonist, Nick Burnhardt is a Grimm. He recently learned this from his aunt Marie, but she’s in a coma and can’t help him much. During the pilot, he runs into a reformed Big Bad Wolf who helps him chase down another Big Bad Wolf.

The Happening

Wow, that was a terrible movie. Terrible acting, terrible writing, terrible shooting, terrible production… Just plain bad. I’m so surprised that the guy behind Unbreakable, The Sixth Sense and Signs came up with this BS.

It could have been a great movie, M. Night Shyamalan just messed it up. 20 minutes in, some crazy guy says that it’s the plants! Yeah. John Leguizamo was terrible. Marky Mark wasn’t too far behind, but Zooey Deschanel was terrible as well. There isn’t much you can do with a stinker script.

Shyamalan should just stick with coming up with ideas for movies, and stay away from writing, directing and producing movies. That’s three stinkers in a row, if I count The Lady in the Water. The Village wasn’t so bad. i did enjoy that one.

Mother Of Tears Review

If you have read some of my previous posts, you’ll know that I am a fan of Dario Argento. I finally managed to watch the last movie in the Three Mothers series, Mother of Tears (La Terza Madre, The Third Mother). That last post dates from mid October 07. I just never posted it for some reason.

I was happy to find out that Dario Argento was working on the last installment of the series. I still believe that Suspiria is by far his best work. Mother of Tears is almost more of a giallo movie than a supernatural one.

Mother of Tears is drastically different from Suspiria and Tenebrae, containing more gore and nudity than any other Argento movie I can remember. Parts of it are very effective. The witches portrayed are typically typecasted. Strange women, in fashionable clothes and wearing a lot of make-up running around and making lots of noise.

Most disappointing was Mater Lachrymarum. Did you think that Mater Lachrymarum had fake tits and pranced around naked all the time? No? Well she does in this movie. When her character is first introduced, it’s interesting. The dress she wears is haunting, her scarlet lips that are visible under her hood enhance her evil.
