iRobot and Raytheon File Patent All-in-One Robot Fabricator: Hide Your Kids, The Robocalypse Is Nigh

OK, so basically, self-replicating robots are a no-no when it comes to robotics, because you don’t want them to start taking over the planet and exterminating humans. I for one, don’t welcome our robotic overlords.  iRobot and Raytheon recently filed a patent which could be the source of something scarily robotic. Thankfully, this isn’t exactly what they’re after, but it wouldn’t take much to make so-called “von Neumann machines” a reality with this device in hand.

Text-Enabled Espresso Machine Prints Your Number on Foam

This definitely isn’t your average texting setup, because it allows you to send a text message to remotely tell a coffee machine to start making your coffee. This espresso machine also prints the last three digits of your phone number on the foam, ensuring that no one will steal your fresh cup of java in the morning.

Spherical Flying Machines: The Prisoner Isn’t Far Behind

This unusual spherical flying machine was developed by the Japanese Ministry of Defense. It’s the first of its kind and is remote-controlled.

It can hover like a helicopter. It can fly forward at high speed using wings, which a helicopter can’t do. It’s got three gyros to help keep it stabilized, and can even roll around on the ground, and move itself about.

011811-espressomachine0.jpgOne of the main reasons why we completely stopped buying coffees at coffee shops is basic economics. Buying a cup/mug or two a day adds up to a lot of money over a year. In fact, you’d probably be surprised to learn that the Starbucks coffee you love so much could end up costing you as much as a very expensive Italian espresso machine…even one with a touchscreen interface!
