The Distance to Mars: Measured in Pixels

I’m pretty sure that many people have trouble understanding stellar distances. Even Mars, one of the closest planets, is really far away by Earthly measurement standards. Check out this great and simple web animation on how far away Mars actually is from Earth.

8-Bit Cases for iPhone 5 and iPad Mini: Your Gadgets Love the 80s

There’s something very appealing about giant pixels, especially when you can find them all over your gadgets. The company behind these big pixel cases and sleeves has released cases and sleeves for the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini. Now all your shiny new Apple gizmos can be retro’d out in 8-bit style.

Google Chromebook Pixel Takes Aim at MacBook Pro, Still Can’t Run Photoshop

When it comes to laptops, there are many things that manufacturers can learn from Apple. That being said, there are plenty of MacBook and MacBook Pro alternatives that are worth checking out. Google’s just upped the ante with the release of their Chromebook Pixel, which has some features that the next generation of MacBooks might have.

8-Bit iPhone Bumper Case: The Biggest Pixels Around

Unlike most of the curvy bumper cases out there, the 8-Bit Bumper from Big Big Pixel is surrounded with blocky pixels, that almost look like LEGO bricks. It’s definitely an awesome case to have if you like 8-bit style.

MIT Media Lab Makes OLED Display Cubes: No Cenobites in Sight (Yet)

For some reason, whenever I see small, interesting cube-like devices, I think of the puzzle cube in Hellraiser, which is also knowns as a Lemarchand’s box. However unlike those, these ones developed by the MIT Media Lab allow you to visualize something on each of the six screens, one on each side, not open a door to Hell!

Pixel Block Movie Posters Offer Bitmapped Drama

These funny pixelated movie posters were created by Colorado graphic designer Eric Palmer. While some may call them them 8-bit art, they kind of look like they wouldn’t be out of place on an a 16-bit system like the Sega Genesis or SNES. That being said, most of these movies weren’t even around when either 8 or 16-bit consoles were all of the rage.

Pablo Cialoni’s Pixel Superheroes: Heroic Bits

This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen pixelated superheroes around here, but these ones created by Pablo Cialoni, better known by his handle Pahito, look slightly more minimal than the others that I’ve come across, while still conveying the essence of each character.

Ghostbusters vs. Pac-Man Ghost: Who You Gonna Wakka, Wakka, Wakka?

These new retro prints from Raid71 put together some of my favorite characters, in an unexpected, but not unlikely pixelated scenario. It makes you wonder who would win in the epic battle between the Ghostbusters and this blue ghost from Pac-Man.

Super Bros Pixel Art: 8-Bits or 16-Bits of Awesome?

I’ve got to admit that I have a weakness for any design that contains big pixels. There’s a sort of retro allure that’s involved with the creation of these kinds of designs.

These particular pixelated cartoons are the creation of Ty Lettau.
