This Isn’t an Alien Invasion… They’re Just Smog-Cleaning Robot Jellyfish!

Most modern cities have bad air, it just comes with the fact that when people live very close together, and they have a lot of cars and industrial complexes, they pollute the environment. Heavy traffic doesn’t help at all, and that’s why this unusual new kind of structure has been conceived to help clean things up.

Xenex Robot Exterminates Germs, Not Humans

When I hear about robots exterminating stuff, I immediately think about our robot overlords, which we will all serve in a near future if we’re not careful enough. The Xenex robot isn’t designed to be the demise of humankind – though it will exterminate most every germ you can throw at it.

Stealthbot: The Sam Fisher of Robots

There are plenty of robots roaming around these days, but researchers have developed a robot that is designed to be the sneakiest robot out there. It uses background noises to mask its actual presence, which is pretty amazing.

Senseless Drawing Bot 2: Even More Senseless Than Before

Graffiti can be cool, at least when its done with artful purpose. With robots all over the place, it was only a matter of time before someone tried to make a robot that drew graffiti. The original Senseless Drawing Bot was great, but this one is even better. If you need random artwork on your walls, you can even hire this robot.

Drones to Monitor Highways and Hand out Speeding Tickets (NOT)

Personally, I hate speed cameras, especially the new mobile ones that are hard to spot. Now, can you imagine drones flying all over the place and handing out speeding tickets if you go over the limit? That would be hell. Actually, these drones aren’t designed to issue tickets (yet), but to monitor the highways and save lives.

3D Print Your Own Android

There are plenty of robots around, but if you could ever 3D-print your own robot at home, that would be taking it to another level. Most of today’s robots tend to look quite machine-like, but humanoid robots are the future. Now, a French artist wants to give everyone plans to make their own androids.

iRobot and Raytheon File Patent All-in-One Robot Fabricator: Hide Your Kids, The Robocalypse Is Nigh

OK, so basically, self-replicating robots are a no-no when it comes to robotics, because you don’t want them to start taking over the planet and exterminating humans. I for one, don’t welcome our robotic overlords.  iRobot and Raytheon recently filed a patent which could be the source of something scarily robotic. Thankfully, this isn’t exactly what they’re after, but it wouldn’t take much to make so-called “von Neumann machines” a reality with this device in hand.

It takes years for a person to learn how to write Japanese or Chinese characters. There’s good news though. Robots can do it a lot quicker. A research group has developed a ‘bot that can identify and mimic detailed brush strokes that are required to write these kinds of characters.

Telepresence robots seem to be something that some people are starting to look at, and that’s one of the reasons why two Princeton students, Tianlong Wang and Xinyi Chen created the Helios robot. It turns your smartphone into a mobile telepresence rig for far less than other solutions.
