Grace the Robofish Goes for a Swim

OK, so maybe ‘underwater gliding’ is the technical term, but to me, it looks like this robot fish is swimming. As Grace (short for Gliding Robot ACE), the robot fish glides through the water, it strives to conserve energy.

Elastomeric “Soft” Robots Running on Pneumatic Actuators

These new prototype robots, which were molded from paper and silicone rubber, can twist, bend, grip, and lift more than 100 times their own weight. The more astonishing fact is that they run on pneumatic actuators, which means that they basically run on air.

OriHime Robot Strikes Sexy Robot Poses

The OriHime robot was developed in Japan by Kentaro Yoshifuji, an engineering student at Waseda University, and it attempts to takes the robotic form to a sexy new level. While it has a more feminine form than the typical ‘bot, it definitely won’t be putting Victoria’s Secret models out of a job anytime soon.

Next Generation NAO Robots Ready to Take Over the World

The French company Aldebaran Robotics just released their next generation NAO mini-humanoid robot, which boasts a bunch of new features that will make it quite formidable. The compact ‘bot stands 1′ 10″ high, and “sees” using high-resolution cameras. It can understand both visual and audio input, and communicates in eight different languages.

Rotundus GroundBot: Rolling Surveillance Robot from the Future

I don’t know why robotics experts haven’t thought of this before, but this tire-like surveillance robot is the way to go for mobile and autonomous operations. Even better since it looks like it’s right out of science fiction, from Terminator, The Prisoner or Fahrenheit 451.

Raytheon Heavy Lifter Prototype: Is Anyone Else Thinking of Aliens?

This Raytheon-Sarcos modified DitchWitch is basically lifter with large robotic arms, allowing the operator to lift and manipulate large loads. It reminds me a lot of those robots in the movie Aliens. This robot could someday replace forklifts and other types of machines.

Robots Playing Ping-Pong: The Future’s So Bright…

Playing table tennis is not something that should be easy for robots to do, so I was actually surprised that these ping-pong playing bots were unveiled in China. These smart ‘bots will play till 21, and hopefully, at least for now, won’t beat any human players.
