Flatsun: 60,000 LEDs Simulate the Sun

I didn’t think that anything could accurately emulate theSsun, but that didn’t stop Rafael Lozano-Hemmer from trying, as he used 60,000 LEDs to recreate some solar magic – albeit without the intense light and heat of the actual Sun.

MIRAGE Substitutional Reality System: One Step Closer to Total Recall

This “substitutional reality system” was developed by the Japanese Laboratory for Adaptive Intelligence at the RIKEN Brain Science Institute. It was created to fuse performance art with perceived reality for its wearer. While it’s doesn’t produce the sort of directly implanted memories seen in Total Recall, the visual and audio portions are immersive enough to trick your mind anyhow.

The Bolshoi Simulation: Boxing the Universe

bolshoi-simulation

The Bolshoi simulation is the most accurate cosmological simulation of the evolution of the large-scale structure of the universe. Larger simulations, including the BigBolshoi and Multidark, run at a volume 64 times bigger than Bolshoi and have just been publicly made available to astronomers and astrophysicists. The Bolshoi simulation used data from the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe that measured tiny spatial variations in the cosmic microwave background radiation, giving a glimpse of the distribution of matter and energy at an earlier epoch of the visible universe.

Invention Simulates Objects Passing Through Your Hand: Now You Can Get Stabbed, Virtually

The Kajimoto research group at the University of Electro-Communications has invented a device that simulates something passing through your hand. It’s been made to improve the reality of some games and uses a vibration mechanism to create the sensory illusion.
