25 KM Dusk Ride

I was extremely busy this week. It was the last week of classes and while they ended this week, it was time to setup my summer. I never really take any time off from teaching. I’ll be teaching the whole summer, which is good. I had been wanting to go out for a ride for a while, but I only managed to do so on Friday, when I had some free time. This week, I was also covering a few extra posts, which made training in the evenings impossible.

TCR Advanced SL ISP M-Sized With SRAM Red & Mavic K10

TCR Advanced SL in size M

The main batch of the TCR Advanced SL ISP special is arriving at the end of June. There are still some XS and S-sized models available. Not many, but a few. The M-sized bike sold this week. We’ve got an M-sized TCR Advanced SL ISP with the same components, including SRAM Red, and Mavic K10 wheels available right now. The only difference is that it’s in black and blue, as pictured above.

While I was thinking about getting the other model for myself, customers always come first, so I sold it. In my opinion, this one looks even better. This bike isn’t complete. In order to tailor it, you’ll need to choose a stem, handlebar, and saddle. We’ve got a full selection of Giant gear available, including the top of the line Giant Contact SLR garb.

The Ultimate Weight Weenie

AX 4000 handlebars, 135g, $800

Unlike my previous post, this build is a no holds bar try at making an ultra-light bike. Although there could be other options for the frameset, I’ve decided to build upon a Scott Addict R1 frame, which weighs 790g. While the AX Alpha could be used in such a build, it’s not yet available and the frame itself is almost double the price of the Addict. The same goes for the Spin Gato. The Guru Photon usually weighs more than the Addict, depending on the size, from the reports that I’ve seen. It’s also a lot more expensive than the Addict R1.

TD’s Giant TCR Advanced SL 1 ISP & Customer Testimonial With Asterisk*Cycles

Giant TCR Advanced SL 1 ISP with Mavic Carbone SL

TD’s bike arrived a little more than a week ago and he finally sent me a few photos of the assembled and finished bike. As you know, we don’t fully assemble the bikes, we check that everything is accounted for and pre-assemble them. All that you have to do when you receive a bike from us is to put the handlebar onto the stem and mount the front wheel.

Velocite Millennium & 135mm F/2 VC & Nikon D700

SRAM Red rear derailleur

My wife got herself a Nikon D700 and a 135mm F/2 VC lens on Monday. It’s a significant upgrade compared to my D200, because of the FX sensor, but I was mostly interested by the 135mm lens that she got. It’s a lens that enables you to control the focus and defocus, as Nikon puts it.

Basically, it lets you control the amount of bokeh in your photos. Anyway, it’s supposed to be a great portrait lens. I found it really nice to take photos of bikes.

YL’s Giant TCR Advanced SL 1 ISP

YL's TCR Advanced SL 1 ISP

This week has been a bit hectic. I’ve got a customer, YL, who’s got a race next week in Singapore and he needs to have his new bike, a Giant TCR Advanced SL 1 ISP, in order to race. We just received his bike on Tuesday and managed to ship it off today, on Thursday.

25 KM Night Bike Ride

Cockpit view of the Velocite Millennium

With the rainy weather over Chinese New Year, that just started when the build of my Velocite Millennium Elite SRAM Red bike was completed, I stayed indoors most of the week. I regretted not purchasing a trainer. The rain finally let up yesterday and I decided to go out on a ride tonight.

It felt good, but I was slow, compared to my fastest time last year. I wanted to leave earlier, but I had to ready the bike for the ride. This meant transferring some of the gear over. It took longer than expected.

2010 Velocite Millennium

Finished my Velocite Millennium build

I picked up my bike, the Velocite Millennium, on Thursday and saw it getting put together most of this week. I wasn’t satisfied with the Into Race ceramic BB, so I had it replaced with the SRAM Red one.

The bike has got a titanium/red color scheme going. I couldn’t decide on which handlebar tape to put on Wednesday and finally decided on the Cinelli Bubble Ribbon tape. It matches great with the red logos, the red cables, red accents on the tires and seat, and the red colors of the rim.

Velocite Updates Its Site & My Millennium Build List

Velocite's new site

Velocite has just updated and started its new website. It looks pretty darn good and I’m glad for Victor.

I hadn’t much thought about the warranty on the Millennium frame that I’m about to get tomorrow, but I was pretty happy to find out that its got a lifetime warranty + 3 years on crashes. Now that’s really good!

The Millennium I’m getting will be decked out in SRAM Red. Photos and more when I receive it sometime tomorrow. It’s supposed to have arrived now. I’ll go take a look!
