Scoble on Rocketboomgate or how monetizing a vlogs is necessary

This posts featured photographer is ec808. Beautiful long exposures and extraordinary night photography. I just can’t get over how talented this guy is, incredible pictures. He uses a Nikon D50, a nice entry level DSLR, with a variety of lenses.

In this post, I cover some of Scoble’s views on Rocketboomgate added with my own, some Big Brother Uk, some vlogging, dreamlog #6, extra coverage on Rocketboomgate and more!

From Scoble’s blog, he theorizes who will replace Amanda Congdon on Rocketboom.

Will it be Bethany of RealVerse? A faith blog? Please get over it Scoble.
Or Laura and Tina of On10? Nope
Irina of GeekEntertainment TV? Yeah, I don’t think so, no charisma those girls.
Cali of GeekBrief.tv? Podcast, so no way to judge her abilities in front of the camera
Amber of TWiT.tv? Podcasts again.
Jason and Nate of the Bleeding Edge? They are nerds, no one wants to see nerds on TV.

Scoble is examining how to hire Amanda Congdon in one of his latest posts. Now that girl will go far, with offers streaming in from right left and the center, she will have no problems moving to LA if she still wants that. Amanda will have to have all agreements in writing, notarized and legalized. Sure, it’s a few hundred bucks more but you insure you interests in the companies you work for, because even if you started this for fun, it has become your career and you have to profit from it, not make other profit from it exclusively.

From sfgate

According to Valleywag, Amanda is feeling the love from the blogosphere. He says Robert Scoble already tried to pull Amanda to his new employer, PodTech. And others are making similar offers including Jason Calacanis, who penned a public letter to Amanda, asking her to run a show about the top items on his news portal, Netscape. He’s even offering her full rights to her videos after a six-month exclusive for Netscape and the promotional power of AOL.

All this has got me thinking. I know I been yammering about a vlog since the beginning of this blog and I haven’t delivered, but this whole controversy and AmandaCongdongate has got me thinking about the whole thing all over again. I was ranting about something the other day with my compadre Mr Angry and I got this stupid idea about an Angry Alliance or something along those lines. Not that I want to rant or be as mad as he is, though I have to admit that from time to time I do get very frustrated, I think I’ll start a vlog this weekend. No shit Sherlock, I want to be recruited and get the offers that Congdon is getting. Though I do have some problems:

A) I’m not a hot chick

B) I’m not a hot chick

C) I’m not a hot chick

D) I’m not Brookers of FilthyWhore of YouTube

E) I haven’t even posted one vlog

However, I think there is a future in this. I was thinking about a comment Mr Angry made on how time consuming it can be to blog, vlog and podcast and I have to agree with him. That is one of the reasons I don’t really go that much on digg and newsvine anymore, writing content and finding content can be very time consuming. Coupled with a full time job, well you can be everywhere are once. I wish sometimes that I was blogging full time so I could deliver better content to my readers. I’m sure that will come at some time, I plan on documenting my move pretty thoroughly. And you’ll get to see videos of Spike, the masturbating French Bulldog. Now that’s quality content right there for you readers!

Comment I made on talking about business cards.

I went from being a programmer to working in finance. Its a change that taught me a lot of things, including on having my cards on me at all times, even if I wasn’t in a suit.

Of all the blogs out there, there is a small fraction that can actually monetize themselves and turn into careers. Why? Maybe I’m tired of working for money, maybe I want to write for a living, maybe I’m tired of the rat race I put myself in for the sake of my family.

There are a lot of reasons, but one that comes to mind is freedom. Being able to do what you want to do and be free.

Dreamlog #6

It looks like I’m exploring a lush forest, kind of like the ones that exist in BC. A beautiful place, I see over the hills and valleys that the main town is being attacked. Giant dinosaurs, especially one giant one, as big as the statue of liberty is attacking and destroying the city. We are too far away to do anything, but we must return to try and save people.

We are driving through a very small town and we stop at a dinner to get some grub. The people let us sit down. They all seem transfixed by the television. I eat something with my dad.

This is Nikki’s bed?

From what I gathered, her latest temper tantrum revolved around the fact that she uses two beds. She sleeps on one and keeps her stuff in another. What a spoiled brat that girl, then again, we already knew this. She is hilarious to watch in the diary room.

Who is getting tired of Aisleyne’s balling? She keeps the waterworks going all the time, it’s getting really irritating. Enough so that I skip those parts. Let’s just say that the group dynamics are in for a change over the next few weeks with so many new housemates.

In Big Brother Australia, the Camillagate incident is dying down slowly (see also this post), having made the international media (it got even coverage in Canada). Meanwhile, David is freaking out and having a hissy fit because of Perry. It is exposing some of the weaker points in his personality, that the viewers may not have seen before.

The new Big Brother USA Allstars started yesterday. I won’t bore you with the details, but most of the favorites are in there. Janelle and Jase are co-heads of households and they nominated Alison and Danielle.

  1. Great photos again (but they took forever to load – I’m still on dialup. Don’t laugh. I SAID – Don’t laugh!) The one on the beach is amazing. How do you find these? Through Interestingness?

Looks like you’re a fan of long exposures. I can’t blame you when you come across photos like these.

  2. Kerryn: (I’m not laughing, I’m on what they call ultra high speed from a cable company)

Kind of. It’s complicated. I do browse the calendar of flickr, but one user leads to another, some photo pools lead to others. It’s what I call degrees of separation. So I’m not sure how I found them exactly. However, it did start at some point with interestingness.

Yep, I love long exposures, can’t wait to get equipped and take some myself.

  3. Yes Charles, they are incredible. The photographs from static808 are all long exposure, varying from 350 seconds and more. That is why some things are stationary whilst others move around.

What really rocks is how blue the sky looks and also the star movements.

Long exposures are a quite tantilizing subject matter as is with night photography. I’ve seen some shots take a few hours of exposure, isn’t that crazy.

I hope to specialize in these types of photos in the coming months and years.

  4. Thank you for the feature, range. Being a fresh amateur, I’m truly honored.

It won’t take years to shoot like this. Everything I’ve learned about photograpy, I’ve learn from various soucrces on the web, and it was all within a year.

    Best wishes,
    Eric

  5. Thanks for your comment Eric, I still believe your are very talented. I love night photography and your photos just takes it to a whole new level. Looking forward to taking some shots like that at some point.

For those of you unsure, Eric is the featured photographer of this post.

    Cheers!

  6. NEWS UPDATE:
Rumors are floating around that Amber Mac is the Rocketboom replacement for Amanda Congdon. More information on my next post later on today. Damn you Scoble!

  7. You should start out with a point and shoot and if you really like it move into DSLR with a macro lens so that you can take intersting photos of food and dishes
