Numer is a nuclear engineer trained in Frankfurt Germany. He moved to the middle east after that. Numer has all the training needed to set up the suitcase nuke. Karen Hayes informs the President that the casualties in a densely populated city would number of hundreds of thousands.

Assad discovers a PDA with a coded message saying that Fayed received the nuke a few days ago. CTU gets a call from the woman who’s son is being held hostage by Ahmed Assar. The husband is delivering the last tools needed to reprogram the nuke, though he doesn’t know it. Curtis and Jack are on their way to meet with her and to neutralize the threat.

Meanwhile, the Saudi ambassador confirms to the President that Assad is a key figure in the terrorist cell organizations. Many groups will listen and follow his lead. The ambassador says as much.

Bauer follows up on the lead of the hostage family and when delivered, the son tells them of the address where his father dropped off the equipment. Assad signs the deal that the President has offered him; full pardon and continued support to find Fayed in exchange for his cooperation. Bauer discovers that Curtis led a team of soldiers who were ambushed and killed by Assad’s men. There is a standoff.

Bauer shoots Curtis to save Assad. Ahmed Amar dies on the way to the hospital. Bauer has a breakdown after shooting Curtis. While the tactical team assaults the terrorists’ location with the suitcase nuke, Numer finished the preparations and detonates the nuke.

Thanks to Walid, Sandra Palmer’s boyfriend and head of the IAA detained in a detention facility, CTU now knows that there are 5 suitcase nukes in the USA right now. 4 more are left.

Well, I predicted it after seeing the 1st episode of the new season of 24. They had to do this storyline wise. I am also interested in seeing that they have included multiple nuclear warheads in this series. In the last few seconds of episode 4, we know that 4 more suitcase nukes are out there and Fayed is still at large. And most of the leads have run dry.
