Jack was thrown a curveball at the end of last episode and he does his best to see it through, even if it doesn’t go well with the administration and his superiors. Technically, he doesn’t have any superiors; he’s still declared dead I believe.
While Jack moves heaven and Earth to make it happen, he is thrown even more obstacles, when something we expected to happen finally does.
The tide turns and things just get from bad to worse.
Warning: Spoilers ahead.
The Chinese want part of the suitcase nukes so that they can reverse engineer them. They are old enough so that they are not protected by any elaborate encryptions. The Chinese want the circuit boards.
So Jack has to get these parts; that will be a problem since CTU just handed them over to the Marines. He talks with Audrey again.
The President is exhilarated because of the news that Hayes has just delivered to him; the suitcase nukes have been recovered. Buchanan is briefing his team on the last measures to be done after the crisis.
Jack calls Chloe for another favor. He needs the schematics of the suitcase nukes so that he knows what he is looking for. He only has an hour to get it. This last development is a bit of a let down.
There are still six more episodes to go and I wonder what these episodes will be about. Except Audrey Raines, there is nothing really left to explore. That is unless they bring back Bauer’s daughter.
The President is asking the Vice-President resignation and he refuses. He wants his resignation this week.
Chloe can’t keep it a secret. Jack is stopped by Doyle.
Jack talks to the President and arranges to have explosives set on himself in case that his operation to secure Audrey Raines fails.
The VP drafts his letter of resignation. I have the feeling that the chain of command will be interrupted somehow. If the President doesn’t have a VP, who will take the Presidency if he is unfit to assume his duties?
Someone in the cabinet no doubt, here is the succession of power in the USA.
Naturally, the President drops during his conference. He suffered another cerebral hemorrhage. The damage is severe and he will not be able to continue his Presidency. The VP steps up and throws out his letter. Noah gets what he wants.
The VP learns about the mission involving Jack and wants it stopped immediately. Hayes and Lennox put it in action.
Buchanan tells Doyle and Jack suspects something is up so he pulls a gun on Doyle.
