Primeval is a British science fiction drama television program produced by Impossible Pictures for ITV. The first episode was broadcast on 10th February 2007, and was renewed for a second series by ITV, which started on 12th January 2008.
The series follows a team of scientists who investigate anomalies in time and deal with the creatures that travel through. The team of five is led by Professor Nick Cutter, a palaeontologist determined to find his wife, who disappeared while investigating an anomaly in the Forest of Dean eight years previously.
As much as the premise sounds ridiculous, the series is actually quite good. Things really get interesting when the predator from the future arrives in our timeline and wreaks havoc. There is also the enigmatic Helen, Dr. Nick Cutter’s ex-wife, who travels between times. She’s trying to get to the future era, but spends most of her time in the Permian Era.
I actually like the second series a lot more than the new season of Torchwood, and that’s saying a lot. The actors are good in Primeval and they have good chemistry, something that is completely absent from Torchwood. To confound matters even further, Dr. Cutter changed something by traveling into the past. Claudia Brown is missing and no one knows of her. He might have just stepped into an alternate worldline. However, clues are shown that there might be other time traveling agents involved. This show is really getting good.
Most definitely, Primeval is way better that the current season of Torchwood. I’ve just watched the third episode of Torchwood and it was a big bore.
Warning: Spoilers ahead.

Helen is inthe Permian Era. She has got short hair and she’s exploring. There are a lot of gratuitous boob shots. She steals some eggs from a pterodactyl and gets injured by it. She’s got to perform field surgery on herself.
Cutter is still freaked out by Jen Lewis, who he knows as Claudia Brown. Connor has to restrain Cutter from going mad.
Some finance guy is being mean to his assistant. He doesn’t want anything to go wrong today. Of course, an anomaly opens in their building. A strange fog appears. A guy gets attacked by something.
The firefighters are called and the chief is killed as well. Another firefighter sees something as well. Cutter briefs Lester about the anomaly detection process with the radio waves. The device gets approved. Cutter wants Connor to build it. He’ll report to Leek. Connor and Abby are choosing out a movie together. Connor gets hit on by a girl at the movie rental place. More people are dying. Connor brings Caroline home to Abby’s place. They get called to work. Caroline leaves him her number.
Stephen comes home and finds Helen lying around. She says that she’s been attacked by a terrorsaur. She says that she’s sorry about what happened. Stephen slept with Helen again. He gets a call to get to work. He tells her to be gone by the time he gets back.
Leek tells Lester about a new creature sighting. Jenny and Cutter leave for the sighting. Stephen joins them. They both go into the building. They find a firefighter cornered by something. Cutter hits it a few times with an axe. It’s some kind of worm. The worm can’t breathe outside the fog. It dies.
Cutter and Stephen are cornered by another worm in the elevator. Cutter runs back. He loses track of Stephen.
Connor and Abby need some weaponry. Abby gets an idea to go to a garden center. Connor thinks that one of the soldiers is the man that disappeared from the shopping mall. The man does look shifty.
Stephen gets close up and personal with a worm. He uses his watch to distract them and jump into the elevator shaft. He calls Cutter. Jenny is trying to get information on what’s going on. He tells her to take the stairs to the 12th floor and not to take the lift. Of course she doesn’t listen and takes the lift. She gets attacked by a worm and Cutter has to bail her out. She returns the favour and saves him. Abby and Connor arrive with leaf blowers. Cutter thinks that it’s a great idea.
The team manages to save the two stragglers. Connor thinks that they are going to be alright. This happens right before a worm tries to swallow his head. Cutter has to cut off the worm’s head. Connor goes for a wash and naturally washes off Caroline’s number. Connor thinks that if they heat up the air, the air will expand and push the sulphur away.
Stephen is trapped and Cutter is going to look for him. Abby and Connor head to the server room. Connor thinks about using the ventilation shafts. Abby goes into the room and puts the temperature up. She has to fight off a worm and climb back into the shaft. There is a lot of grabbing and pulling involved. Looks like they will be having sex soon.
The heat is making the worms spore. The little worms try to burrow into the team’s skin. Cutter puts the sprinklers on to cool things down.
Caroline comes back because she left her mobile. Connor takes her out.
Cutter tries to talk with Jenny, but he finds out that she is involved with someone. He leaves. Helen watches him from a car.
