Battlestar Galactica is an Emmy Award winning science fiction television program created by Ronald D. Moore that first aired on October 18, 2004 in the United Kingdom and Ireland on Sky One, and January 14, 2005 in the United States on SCI FI. Repeats of episodes have been shown in the United States on SCI FI, NBC, Bravo, and in high definition on Universal HD.
Battlestar Galactica continues from the 2003 mini-series to chronicle the journey of the last surviving humans from the Twelve Colonies of Kobol after their nuclear annihilation by the Cylons. The survivors are led by President Laura Roslin and Commander William Adama in a ragtag fleet of ships with the Battlestar Galactica, a powerful but old warship, as its command ship. Pursued by Cylons intent on wiping out the remnants of the human race, the survivors travel across the galaxy looking for the fabled and long-lost thirteenth colony: Earth.
Because of the WGA strike, we will only be seeing 10 episode season this year. The other episodes will air in 2009.
That being said, the end of the last season was spectacular. It was revealed that Colonel Tigh, Sam Anders, the Chief and Tory Foster were four of the five final Cylon models. On top of that, Kara Thrace returned to the fleet with a message from Earth.
I used to think that Thrace was the final Cylon model. I’m no longer sure of this, although her disappearance and reappearance is hard to swallow without thinking about Cylons, I believe that Thrace is the key to Earth. She believes that too. No one else believes this, except Apollo naturally and maybe the Admiral. He’s known her for too long to think that she’s just gone bonkers.
In this episode, the President has to deal with D’Anna, who’s deadset on getting the four remaining Cylon models who are hidden among the Colonial Fleet. Lee has to play hardball and use tactics in order to get some of the hostages released, but it doesn’t work well. D’Anna starts executing the hostages. Tigh can’t go on and he confesses to Adama that he is a Cylon. Lee puts him in an airlock at Tigh’s request and tries to use this as a bargaining chip. It doesn’t really work. It starts to net results when Tigh reveals who the other three Cylon models are.
Anders and Tyrol were trying to tell Kara that something had changed with the Viper that she came back in. Something was different. Kara is doubtful but she examines the logs and finds out the location of Earth, after Anders and Tyrol were arrested.
D’Anna is doing her best to antagonize the humans. They prover her wrong by sharing the location of Earth. As the situation slowly is resolved, she releases the human hostages. From the images, it looks like Anders, Tyrol and Tigh have decided to remain on board the Galactica. Only Foster is on board with the Cylons.
The combined Cylon and human fleet heads off to Earth, but they are met with something that they didn’t expect. Earth has been scorched with nuclear war. It’s a barren planet with a lot of ambient radiation. There is a view upon a city near the sea. It is devastated.
I was worried with the way that they were going to present Earth. i actually thought that they would just mess it up. Thankfully that didn’t happen. This is a great way to end this season. I love how both factions joined for once and found Earth together. It isn’t what anyone expected. What will the the Colonial Fleet do now? They do not have a home and no longer hope to have a home. The only thing is that when exactly did all this happen and are they in Earth’s future or Earth’s past, relatively to our timeline?
Roslin also has to decide if she can let Baltar die or if she will save him. Each time the Hybrid jumps, she sees visions about her choices. In the end, she can’t go through with it and saves Baltar. Baltar did confess that he was in part responsible for the destruction of the 12 colonies.
I thought that this was a great episode. It’s going to be a great way to end this series.
Warning: Spoilers ahead.

He tells her that she has ten minutes to free his people. Lee tells Tigh that he needs to tell him who the other Cylons are if he wants to save the fleet.
Tyrol and Anders are talking with Kara. The soldiers come in and get Anders and Tyrol. Anders admits that he’s a Cylon to his wife Kara. He tells her that something changed in this Viper. She’s got to find out what it is. They put the three Cylons in the airlock.
Kara goes into the Viper’s cockpit.
Lee calls D’Anna. Centurions are pushing the hostages somewhere. Leoben arrives and says that D’Anna is planning on killing more hostages. D’Anna calls Lee and is surprised to find out that he’s got all three Cylons.
Foster thinks that Lee will back down. Leoben takes Baltar to see D’Anna. Baltar says that if Lee is pushed, he will kill the three. D’Anna says that the entire human will kill them.
Kara places with the controls of the Viper. It indicates a location. The location of Earth. She runs back to see Lee.
Lee is informed that the baseship’s nukes are running hot. Lee has everyone but Tigh get out of the airlock. D’Anna thinks that the humans will not forgive them for what they did to the Twelve Colonies. Baltar says that brute force didn’t work for them before, why does she think that it will work now.
Lee is about to kill Tigh. Tight tells him to do it. As he was about to push the button, Kara arrives. She says that the Viper picked up an emergency beacon. She thinks it’s Earth. Kara thinks that a higher power is at work and that it wants them to find Earth with the Cylons.
The Cylons are coming aboard to check out what they have found. Lee shares this info with D’Anna. He tells her that he granted the Four an amnesty. He wants to go where they will go from here. She agrees to release the crew and go to Earth together. Lee shakes her hand.
Lee briefs his dad. He’s happy to see Roslin again. She tells him that this is it.
Roslin says that the fleet needs his kind of leadership. The Admiral doesn’t plan on letting the chance for the alliance to fall apart again. He plans on jumping there with the whole fleet.
All of the ships arrive at their target destination. They’ve found Earth. The Admiral makes an announcement. Tigh and Anders are still aboard the Galactica.
They land and find a nuclear wasteland. It’s not what they expected. They find the remnants of a civilization long destroyed.
