True Blood S01E01 (HBO)

This series is based on the Southern Vampire Mysteries books by Charlaine Harris. It tells the story of how humans and vampires co-exist in a small southern town. Personally, I’ve never read the books, so I don’t know how accurate the adaptation is. However, it is quite interesting. It’s a good twist on the mythos.

There are loads of vampire shows out there. Most recently, Moonlight was canceled from CBS. Some of them are successful, others aren’t. The pilot was interesting. I’ve never seen a show explore the relationship between vampires and humans.

The series is adapted by Alan Ball. He also produced it. Alan Ball is the man behind Six Feet Under.

The setting is interesting as well. Thanks to HBO, the show does have some mature content. It makes the whole thing more interesting.

I don’t really know what to say of Anna Paquin’s acting. It seems to me that she played a southern belle already in X-Men. She does do the same thing in this show. It’s hard to see the difference. As with her role as Rogue, Sookie has never been in love or had men in her life. It’s funny how you can draw parallels betwen Paquin’s different characters.

New Orleans and Louisiana are a hotbed for vampire fiction. Lestat of the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice makes the city his home.

The pilot was interesting. Since it runs on HBO, it’s guaranteed at least a 13 or 10 episode season. What was great was that unlike Moonlight, True Blood is exploring old vampires, their influence and hopefully their powers. From my initial screening, it seems like Bill participated in the US Civil War.

Anyways, look for this series on HBO in September 2008.

Anna Paquin stars as a telepath working as a waitress. She can hear thoughts.

Vampires have come out of hiding when the Japanese were able to synthesize blood.

A couple is having oral sex. He finds out that she had sex with a vampire. He finds bitemarks on her thigh. She tells that a guy paid her 1000$ to bite her. She says that it was too rough. She likes it rough, but not that rough. He is about to leave, when she says that she videotaped it, when the vampire drank of her. There is some bondage. She starts going down on him. They have sex, but he gets too rough and starts to strangle her. The scene cuts before we see what happened to the girl. He didn’t know that the girl was taping them.

At the bar where Sookie works, a vamp walks into her section. The vampires revealed themselves to humanity two years ago.

Sookie finds out that the couple that befriended her vamp are planning on emptying him out for his blood. The couple has left with him and they are draining him. Sookie takes a chain and hits the man. A vampire is watching them. Sookie successfully chases them off. They had the vamp bound with a little silver chain.

Sookie can’t hear his thoughts. Bill asks Sookie not to tell people that silver can bind vampires.

Jason, Sookie’s brother, comes by to see her, but she left a few minutes ago. Terra has a thing for Jason, but Jason’s isn’t interested. Jason is the guy who was banging the girl interested in vamps.

Sookie comes home and dreams of seeing Bill.

The next morning, Sookie’s nan tells them that Maudette was found strangled in her apartment. Jason says that Maudette was a fang-banger. A girl who likes to bang vampires. He says that there are also hookers who specialize in vampires. They drink Tru Blood to keep their supply up and keep a bodyguard there in case the vampire gets too frisky. They charge 1000$.

Sookie finds out that Jason is hiding something.

The sheriff comes to see Jason about Maudette. He denies going to her apartment and having a relationship with her. He then admits that he went to her place last night.

Lafayette tells Terra that Jason was arrested. Everyone knew about Jason, but no one told Sookie because they thought that she would know. She didn’t. Bill turns up at the bar. Sookie hears everyone’s thoughts and they stop once the vamp takes her hand.

Bill tells her that she is something more than human. Bill has old fashioned ways. He wants to call on her at her home. Sookie has a favor to ask Bill. She wants to see him after her shift. The whole bar is staring at them. When he leaves, the voices return to her head.

Terra and Sam aren’t happy with Sookie, but she doesn’t care what they think. She is a grown woman. On her way out, she gets assaulted by the vampire blood addicts.
