It’s fitting that this show will premiere on Fox, since this was the network of the X-Files. Fringe has got much in common with the X-Files, yet it is different. Fringe is the latest show of wunderkind J.J. Abrams. Like most new shows, the pilot was leaked on the internet a few weeks ago.
Just like a few other shows, like True Blood, I’m happily surprised by Fringe. The production values are great and I’m enjoying it a lot. A lot of money has been pumped into this show, and it just looks fabulous. The protagonists are also an interesting bunch. There isn’t much more that we learn of the Pattern, but Massive Dynamics is most definitely deeply connected with those events, even though they aren’t sharing their information with Agent Dunham.
I think that this show takes a few common elements from Alias, especially for all the things that concerned the mystic scholar Milo Rambaldi. The same kind of esoteric science is involved in this show. It’s done very well. I’d actually like to see this type of mystic science have more of an impact on the show. It would suit the show very well. A bit of the supernatural wouldn’t be bad either.

A guy just finished having sex with a girl named Amber from a club. He’s acting strange. Her real name is Lorraine Daisy. He goes to the bathroom to take out some surgical items. She starts screaming before he gets to work. She’s got something strange going around her belly. He takes her away. He just leaves her. It doesn’t take long for her to get to the emergency room. There is a strange tearing sound. They get something strange looking from her belly. She’s dead.
Royals is facing an inquiry board about his decision on using the Bishops and Agent Dunham. Royals calls her and asks her to bring the team to a medical facility. It can’t wait. Strangely, Walter is in the closet, literally.
The medical team could see the baby growing in front of their eyes. It died from natural causes after half an hour. It wasn’t just growing, it was aging. Royals show them a body that looks like a dead, bloody grandpa. Dr. Bishop as an idea what happened. He wants to examine the bodies.
Royals alerts Dunham to the Pattern, the series of strange events that are happening worldwide.
They get a call from the motel. They find the ID of the woman, Lorraine Daisy Alcott. Bishop Jr. finds some kind of orange gel at the scene. Her things were left behind. Dunham guesses that extra sheets would be in the cupboard. The case was one that John and Olivia worked in New Jersey. They didn’t solve it. Each time, the killer would kill 5 young women. He’d paralyze them and cut them up and remove a piece of their brain, through the nasal cavity.
Olivia goes to see her old boss Charlie. He’s making arrangements for John’s funeral. She wants to have the old case file. The killer is already working on his next victim.
Dr. Bishop is milking the cow. His experiments confirm that the man who impregnated Lorraine was the subject of the experiments that were done by him in this lab. He has no idea how this man. Dr. Bishop remembers where he parked his car.
Dunham says that the killer removed the pituitary gland and then overdosed the victims with anesthetic. Bishop says that progeria can be simulated by manipulating the pituitary gland. Olivia finds the name Penrose in his files. Penrose moved to the East Coast. He’s a professor at Boston College.
The killer is working on his new victim. He’s removing the pituitary gland. Agent Dunham goes to see Dr. Penrose. Charlie has found another victim. Bishop says that they were working on a program to grow soldiers for government. Within three years, the soldier would mature to 21 year. The only problem was to slow the aging process once they arrive at the desired time.
The killer needs to extract the growth hormones in order to control his condition. He passed on his deformity to the girl during sexual intercourse through his sperm.
Penrose goes to see Christopher, the killer. He’s his son. Christopher says that the pain is getting worse. Penrose says that he only needs to get one more, then all will be all right again.
Bishop wants to translate what the girl saw before her death onto a TV screen. Agent Dunham goes to see Mrs. Sharpe. She has a strange dream in her waiting room. She’s happy that Dunham kept Massive Dynamics out of the press. She requested an electronic pulse camera. She hands it over to Dunham. They’ll use this to see what the girl saw before she died. It sounds plausible. The retina is a camera of sorts. They see the bridge that the girl saw before her dead. They find the Stoughton Bridge and triangulate her position, thanks to the point of view.
Christopher is trying to pick up another girl. Penrose is helping him during the procedure. Dunham and Bishop arrive in time to stop the murder. She has Bishop call Francis. She hands him a gun and runs after Christopher. He shoots after Penrose. Before leaving, Penrose triggered the anaesthetic. Peter calls his father. He improvises a defibrillator and revives the girl, whose heart had stopped.
Christopher isn’t doing well. He looks bad. He says that he was an experiment. He should have let him die years ago, but he loved Christopher. He dies of old age.
Dunham hands back the camera to Mrs. Sharpe, who extols the virtues of Massive Dynamics. She wants to hire Dunham. She refers to the Pattern. Royals tells Dunham that Penrose was hit, but is still out there. Royals wants to know what Sharpe told her. She uses the job offer to get a raise.
Bishop tells Dunham that Peter has some kind of medical history. He thought that this was mentioned in his file, but Dunham says that it was absent. The Bishops have to sign off waivers to continue working with Dunham.
