It’s fitting that this show will premiere on Fox, since this was the network of the X-Files. Fringe has got much in common with the X-Files, yet it is different. Fringe is the latest show of wunderkind J.J. Abrams. Like most new shows, the pilot was leaked on the internet a few weeks ago.
Just like a few other shows, like True Blood, I’m happily surprised by Fringe. The production values are great and I’m enjoying it a lot. A lot of money has been pumped into this show, and it just looks fabulous. The protagonists are also an interesting bunch. There isn’t much more that we learn of the Pattern, but Massive Dynamics is most definitely deeply connected with those events, even though they aren’t sharing their information with Agent Dunham.
I think that this show takes a few common elements from Alias, especially for all the things that concerned the mystic scholar Milo Rambaldi. The same kind of esoteric science is involved in this show. It’s done very well. I’d actually like to see this type of mystic science have more of an impact on the show. It would suit the show very well. A bit of the supernatural wouldn’t be bad either.

Someone leads the team to investigate what Dr. Bishop calls the Ghost Network, a secret network that taps directly into agent’s brains. It has evolved into something new, and one of Bishop’s old test subjects is tapping into it. Another great episode from this show. I’m really enjoying it. I recommend it.

A man confesses his sins at St-Anne’s Cathedral. He says that he sees the devil. We see what he talks about. Something is about to happen on a bus. A man takes out a gas mask and detonates a smoke grenade. He gets the bag of a girl he was watching. He doesn’t know why.
The action resumes with the man getting out of the bus and into a waiting car. The man leaves. His name is Roy. The priest knows him. A cop pulls up to the bus. Everyone is dead inside.
At Mount Briar Cemetery, Olivia is attending her traitorous partner’s funeral. It starts to rain. She can barely stand looking at him. He was a marine and is buried with full military honours. Charlie tries to calm her down. She can’t stand being there. John’s mother was looking at Olivia. Royals was at the funeral. He comes to get Olivia. He’s got a new case for her.
Bishop Sr. is self-medicating with homemade drugs. They are psychotics. Paul has spotted a guy surveilling him. He takes the CF card and lets him go. The guy told him that he was supposed to notify them. Walter tells Paul about a bus.
Royals briefs Dunham and the Bishops about the bus. The people in the bus are stuck in some substance, like flies in amber. Bishop guesses that the substance was released in gaseous form
The men responsible didn’t find what they were looking for. I think they were talking Latin on satellite phones. The man called Roy is having flashes/visions. He starts to make a drawing. It’s a woman with stigmata on her hands.
At Walter’s Harvard medical lab, he finds out that the silicate starts out as an aerosol and solidifies somehow. Walter wants to know about the man in the restaurant. Paul doesn’t tell him anything. Walter wants to hear his son play the piano again. The FBI is busy cutting out the victims from the solid mass. Dunham finds that the woman’s backpack is missing. Someone took her backpack and left the bus. She’s a special agent named Evalina Mendoza. She works for the DEA undercover. Her handler is Gram Davidson. Dunham wants to question him. She was tasked to infiltrate the Nicaraguan drug cartel. The op has been going on for a year. A month ago, she heard the members of the cartel talking about the Pattern and wanted to be taken out of the undercover work. She was scared. They set-up a meet but never showed. He doesn’t know anything about her personal effects that were missing. He’s been asked to officially ID her body.
Walter has his piano. He’s playing right now. Astrid says that the music helps Bishop process information. Bishop says that the gas turns solid with the nitrogen in air. Only Massive Dynamics have the knowhow and technology to do this. In the US, all companies who manufacture the chemicals are MD subsidiaries. Charlie Francis calls her. A tip was called in by a priest. A guy names Roy knew something was happening to the bus before it happened. He’s paper pusher at an escrow company.
At his place, he’s got depictions of dozens of attacks of the last year. All of them are dated before the incidents took place. He’s even got the flight from Hamburg. Royals doesn’t think that Roy is involved, but he wants to know where he got his information from. 7 of those incidents were never made public.
Agent Francis asks him a few questions. Dunham asks Mrs. Sharpe about the compounds. She wants a list of the labs to which the materials were shipped. When Dunham first met Sharpe, she told her that science and technology had evolved to such a state that they were running out of control. Dunham says that all of the technology that she has come across has been tightly controlled by and involved Massive Dynamics. Every case has a tie back to MD. Sharpe says that MD is so massive that everything in science and tech is connected back to MD. There was another attack in Prague that Royals didn’t tell Dunham about.
Royals discovers through Francis that Roy’s feelings about the events started about nine months ago, when the FBI became aware of the Pattern. Walter says that man is psychic. Walter thinks that he is linked psychically to the people who are connected to these events. Royals isn’t inclined to go for this explanation. Bishop says that he would like to prove it.
Dunham confronts Royals about the other attack in Prague. He says that until she is ready to deal with what is going on, she will just have to trust him.
Roy is getting an MRI. Something strange is happening to him. Some kind of compound in his blood is magnetic. It would have ripped his body apart. Bishop is reminded about a project that he worked on with Bell. They were investigating a spectrum of waves that were outside the ones that are known right now, that could be used to transmit information. The government wanted to use this ghost network to transmit the most clandestine information. The government wanted them to go a step further, to be able to transmit this information from one person to another. Bishop surmises that he could use an organo-metallic compound directly injected to the brain. Peter finds a file that shows that Roy was one of their initial patients of this trial. Bishop says that Roy didn’t have enough of the compound in him 20 years ago. It must have multiplied over time. The Iridium based metal must have transformed Roy into some kind of receiver. Someone must have perfected another ghost network and Roy is hearing their transmission. Bishop wants to tap into the network thanks to some equipment that he has stashed in their old house.
Peter breaks into his old house to get the equipment. Bishop proceeds with the surgery. He’s attempting to move the metal in Roy’s brain around.
You may also experience an involuntary bowel movement.
Bishop to Roy
Roy starts to speak Latin. He’s hearing voices. Astrid knows Latin. She translates. There is an exchange happening in an hour. It was on her the whole time. They are referring to Mendoza. Dunham examines her body and sees that Mendoza’s handler Davidson extracted something for her right palm. Dunham briefs Royals.
-Oh My God. I believe with the proper demodulation, you could receive satellite TV for free.
-Ok, fun time’s over. Astrid, let’s get him unhooked.
The Bishops to Roy
Davidson is getting instructions via a cell phone. They aren’t using the ghost network. Dunham is on the site. Francis has joined her with a plainclothes team. Dunham finds Davidson, but he’s already been shot by someone. Dunham is in pursuit. They catch him, but he commits suicide before they can apprehend him. At least they got the case. They don’t know what they found. It’s a clear disk. Royals hopes that the NSA knows what it is. They identified the shooter. He’s Matthew Ziegler. Royals shows her the case files on the other incidents. They are Pattern events.
Roy is released. He says that the transmissions have stopped. Peter says that once the cavalry showed up at the train station, the bad guys probably stopped using the ghost network.
Royals meets Mrs. Sharpe. He gives her the chip. It has something to do with encryption. They have been finding them in more bodies. They are downloading data from John Scott.
