Chuck Versus The Cougars S02E04 (NBC)

The Christmas shop

Chuck is an American science-fiction television program created by Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak. The series is about an “average computer-whiz-next-door” who receives an encoded e-mail from an old college friend Bryce Larkin, a rogue CIA agent, which happens to embed the world’s greatest spy secrets into his brain. This is called the intersect.

From the Wikipedia entry on Chuck.

While Chuck has to deal with his new situation, he gets to enjoy the company of Sarah, working for the CIA, and Casey, working for the DOD. They use him as an asset to accomplish their missions, which surprisingly happen around town (?).

Chuck has just started its second season and it’s still entertaining. The mix between an everyday guy and espionage doesn’t get boring, since the character of Chuck actually puts us in these situations as well. I recommend it, though it’s not for everybody.

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

This was another good episode. We learn of Sarah’s past. As much as she didn’t want to reveal it, Chuck gets tangled in her past when someone from her high school shows up at the BuyMore. Strangely enough, Heather was a cheerleader and she married a geek to get some money. There is more to this story and thanks to Chuck, they’ll find out more.

The show starts in San Diego 1998 with an uglified Sarah driving a convertible Volks. Naturally, she’s listening to Chumbawumba. She comes to a house and finds someone being arrested by the ATF. She runs off to find a cache hidden in the forest. It’s got a lot of money and a note in it from her dad.

At the BuyMore, Sarah is buying some speakers. She spots an enemy agent. She tells Casey. She stashes him in the server room. He almost has an orgasm. The girl went to high school with Sarah. She calls Sarah Jenny Burton. Her name is Heather Chandler, she was a cheerleader. She married Mark Ratner, a geek. Mark walks in. They ask her if she’s going to the reunion this weekend.

Chuck flashes on Mark Ratner. He invites them over for dinner.

At the BuyMore, Big Mike is going on a fishing trip. He leaves Lester in charge. The general briefs the team on the Ratners. He’s an engineer at Winthrope Keller Aeronautics. He’s got clearance to access extremely sensitive plans for future weapons technology. These plans have been leaked. Chuck instincts were good. The mission is to go to dinner.

Lester does something stupid. The BuyMore salespeople are selling below the usual price. It’s ridiculous. Morgan finds it funny.

Sarah isn’t happy that Chuck knows her real identity. During the dinner, Heather hints that Jenny wasn’t as pretty as she is right now. Ratner gets a visit from a foreign agent in the toilet. His time is running out. Heather asks about Jenny’s dad, who must still be in jail. As he walks into the bathroom, Chuck flashes on the Russian mob killers. Sarah sends Casey to check on Chuck. He takes out the killers. Mark is under the impression that Chuck took care of them.

Ratner figures out that Chuck works for the govt. Chuck poses as Special Agent Charles Carmichael. They take Ratner into custody. When Ratner gets difficult, Casey intones that Chuck is a madman. His handler wants to meet him. Casey makes Ratner meet with his handler at the reunion.

Lester is freaking out at the BuyMore. The numbers don’t add up. He’s out $3700. I’m surprised. They were giving shit away. It should be $37,000. Chuck jokes that they should throw a party and charge by the head.

Sarah is pissed. She’s working off her anger on a punching bag. She hated Sarah back in high school. Heather found it funny when the jocks were bullying Ratner. Chuck drops by with a present. It’s a dress for the high school reunion. Sarah lets him know that high school was tough. Chuck sees a photo of Jenny. It’s pretty bad. Heather is the same as back in high school, gossiping with her girl friends.

Dick Duffy is a jock and finds the new Jenny pretty hot. He tells Chuck that her dad is in jail. Chuck flashes on his tattoos and he knows that he’s in the Russian mob as well.

There is a party going on at the BuyMore. Lester is freaking out again. Chuck tells Ratner that Duffy is the bad guy. He’s not the guy. The real Russians arrive. Duffy just wants to sell some bootlegs. Sarah heads out to see Duffy. He’s just a perv. Heather tells the Russians that her husband told everything to the feds. She orders them to kill him and the agent (Chuck).

Lester breaks Norman, Big Mike’s swordfish. He stops the party. No one listens to him. He flashes on the real Russian mob guys. Sarah and Casey come back. Chuck stages a diversion. Sarah knows that Heather is involved. A Russian gets Ratner.

Heather did this because the Russians offered her a lot of money. Casey saves Ratner. Heather is pretty good. They have a cat fight in the showers. Ratner thinks that Chuck saved him.

That’s why lovers are suckers
Casey to Chuck

Sarah takes out Heather. She’s the queen of the reunion. The BuyMore looks terrible after the party. They have to clean it up before Big Mike comes back. The team rallies and helps him out. Morgan bails Lester out at the last second. Lester tells Big Mike that he wants his former position and he no longer wants to be assistant manager.

Back in 1998, an ATF agent has a talk with Jenny because of her multiple identities. He says that he saved her father’s life by putting him in jail. He wants to save her as well. Her dad trained her pretty well. He offers her a job in the CIA as Sarah Walker.
