Battlestar Galactica is an Emmy Award winning science fiction television program created by Ronald D. Moore that first aired on October 18, 2004 in the United Kingdom and Ireland on Sky One, and January 14, 2005 in the United States on SCI FI. Repeats of episodes have been shown in the United States on SCI FI, NBC, Bravo, and in high definition on Universal HD.
Battlestar Galactica continues from the 2003 mini-series to chronicle the journey of the last surviving humans from the Twelve Colonies of Kobol after their nuclear annihilation by the Cylons. The survivors are led by President Laura Roslin and Commander William Adama in a ragtag fleet of ships with the Battlestar Galactica, a powerful but old warship, as its command ship. Pursued by Cylons intent on wiping out the remnants of the human race, the survivors travel across the galaxy looking for the fabled and long-lost thirteenth colony: Earth.
I have to say that the season premiere of this year was pretty depressing. A lot of death and despair, since the combined Fleet arrived at earth, finding it scorched. There is a surprising death amongst the crew from suicide, which isn’t surprising. Heck, a lot of people will be killing themselves because of the despondent situation. All of their hopes and dreams have turned to ash. And the president isn’t doing anything, she’s in her own personal hell, having led her people to a promiseland that just isn’t one. The cylons have some interesting revelations, especially the four of the final five.
Even though the episode was depressing, I can’t wait to see what happens next. What’s going to happen between the humans and the rebel cylons? Are they going to create a new society where cylons and humans co-exist? It’s obvious from the tone of this season that Gaeta is going to help Zarek lead a coup of some sort. Since Roslin isn’t really being presidential, can you blame them. I find that these episodes are depressing. Still, I watch them, but I wish they’d be less depressing. A little more hope would be fun.
Warning: Spoilers ahead.
