It’s fitting that this show will premiere on Fox, since this was the network of the X-Files. Fringe has got much in common with the X-Files, yet it is different. Fringe is the latest show of wunderkind J.J. Abrams. Like most new shows, the pilot was leaked on the internet a few weeks ago.
Just like a few other shows, like True Blood, I’m happily surprised by Fringe. The production values are great and I’m enjoying it a lot. A lot of money has been pumped into this show, and it just looks fabulous. The protagonists are also an interesting bunch. There isn’t much more that we learn of the Pattern, but Massive Dynamics is most definitely deeply connected with those events, even though they aren’t sharing their information with Agent Dunham.
I think that this show takes a few common elements from Alias, especially for all the things that concerned the mystic scholar Milo Rambaldi. The same kind of esoteric science is involved in this show. It’s done very well. I’d actually like to see this type of mystic science have more of an impact on the show. It would suit the show very well. A bit of the supernatural wouldn’t be bad either.

A man on a plane starts bleeding from his nose. He goes to the lavatory. He takes a sample from his mouth and the test tube turns all red. He tells the crew to get sedatives from the other passengers and to give them to him. He’ll lock himself in the bathroom. If he changes, the crew is to keep the door locked. In the bathroom, the man’s teeth fall out. Hairs sprout out of his back. A giant were-porcupine comes out of the lavatory and attacks the passengers.
The action picks up in Scarsdale, NY. A woman taking her kids home from soccer practice sees the plane crash. Olivia comes home and finds Ella using her makeup and dressing up. She’s called to the scene. The plane just dropped out of the sky. Broyles shows them the were-porcupine.

Dunham sees another man she knows from John’s memories in Bowman’s client files. They hear the last transmission from the plane. It sounds like something was killing passengers. Dunham says that Daniel Hicks was going to meet Bowman. Francis wants to know how she knows all of this. Dunham tells Francis about what happened to her.
Bowman was infected with some kind of designer virus, which rewrote his DNA. Dunham recognizes the chip. One was found on a DEA agent. Hicks’ nose starts bleeding. Bishop is watching and knows that something is up. He gets sedatives and they are about to inject Hicks. Dunham stops him because she wants Hicks questioned. Hicks mentions Conrad before he has a seizure. Bishop has put Hicks in a medically induced coma. Dunham wants Hicks’ hand cut open. She thinks that he has a chip in it. Dunham shows them to Broyles. She wants Scott exhumed. Broyles says that the other disc went to Massive Dynamic. Broyles gave it to Nina Sharpe.
At MD, she tells them that it wasn’t her decision t keep this from them. She shows them Scott’s body. Scott is dead. They’ve kept him in a suspended state. He did have a disc in him. They think that the discs self-destruct when the host body. The small amount of info they were able to extract implicates Scott in the bio-terrorist cell. The info also mentions a chemist named Conrad. It gets even worse. Broyles says that three hours ago, that French Intelligence told DC that a major weapons sale was going down in Chicago. They know that Conrad is being the sale, but they don’t know when or where this will happen.
Conrad is trying to sell the virus. She phones Peter and tells him to prepare the tank. She needs to go back in. Olivia wakes up in a motel room, where she used to meet John. She sees John and herself getting busy on the bed. Even though Walter has told Dunham that Scott can’t see her, he did so in the past and does so again. He tells her hello, when her other self goes into the bathroom. She takes a gun and asks him about Conrad. She tells him about Hicks and Bowman. She shoots Scott. Something happens and alarms go off.
Olivia is back in another place. She can’t talk with Walter anymore. She sees John. He shows her Conrad. He says that Conrad is a monster. He makes weapons and sells them to the highest bidder. John had him in his sights, but he didn’t know who Conrad was. Scott says that he was on an important mission. Bowman and Hicks are NSA agents. Scott was also an NSA agent. It was a black-op, including plausible deniability. He says that she needs to talk with Hicks. She tells him to trust Hicks, he can help her.
They have to pull her out. Dunham can’t confirm that Scott was working with the NSA. They also don’t know if the antidote is going to work on Hicks. Peter thinks that John might still be lying to her. He might be using her to tip Conrad off. Dunham wants to use the antidote on Hicks. Hicks agrees to collaborate. They plan a sting operation. Dunham and Bishop will pose as the buyers. There is a change of plan. Conrad is coming to meet Dunham. Bishop is able to divert their attention. Dunham uses the code and they get Conrad. Conrad is a French citizen.
Bishop says that Dunham’s mind is purging herself of John’s memories. She is finally returning to normal. She wants to go back into the tank to see him to say goodbye.
