The Mentalist The Thin Red Line S01E08 (CBS)

The Mentalist tells the story of Patrick Jane played by Simon Baker, a man specializing in studying the micro-expressions of people who became involved with trying to catch a serial killer named Red John. Red John killed his wife and daughter. Since then, Jane has been working with the stupidly named CBI, California Bureau of Investigations, a kind of state police.

Robin Tunney plays Agent Lisbon, who is in charge of the unit. Van Pelt is the new agent on the squad. Rigsby has a crush on her. The Mentalist is kind of like the TNT show Psych, but it’s not a comedy, it’s a drama. I’ve enjoyed this series because it’s light and interesting. I’ve kind of come to despise Criminal Minds.

Jane uses his semi-celebrity and his lack of protocol to solve cases quickly, cases in which the CBI wouldn’t be able to come up with answers without him. Each episode has the color red in its title. The Mentalist resembles the show Lie to Me, which premiered in 2009 on Fox. The Mentalist started on the 23rd of September 2008 on CBS.

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

A cop responds to a domestic disturbance call at a motel in Davis, CA. He opens the door and finds two dead bodies. The cop looks like a rookie. It turns out that one of the DB was a witness at a trial. With Purcell dead, the bad guy walks. Jane notices that a baby is missing. Jane takes the key and looks in the girl’s car. He finds a baby. CPS will take charge for the baby.

The detective’s son was the first responder. The detectives aren’t keen on helping out the squad. The CIB thinks that the girl is the key. She only stopped by. Maybe she was being followed. The girl had a few wedding magazines mailed to Lacey Wells. Her name is Patrice Maddigan. She’s been living there for a few months, ever since Jo got busted.

Jo called her last night. He begged Patrice to bring him some food. Patrice always had money when she needed. She didn’t leave the baby with Lacey, because Lacey was drunk. Lacey thought that Patrice had a rich boyfriend.

Cho and Rigsby have located Carris, the drug dealer who employed Jo. They notify the Davis PD, who decide to storm in. Jane waits outside when Lisbon arrives. Jane ambushes a guy trying to leave. It’s Carris and the CIB take him in. They question him. Carris denies killing them. They have recordings of Carris threatening Jo. He says that he was at a bar with a cocktail waitress. Lisbon says that he will hand him over to the Davis PD. He asks for his lawyer.

Sometimes you have to go along to get along.
Grace Van Pelt

Sasha the cocktail waitress give Carris an alibi. They were having sex. Jane thinks that one of the detectives was involved with Patrice. He might have killed Jo and Patrice in a jealous rage. Before proceeding, Lisbon wants to make sure Parsiado is involved. They go to question him after Lacey Wells identified him. After making a fuss in front of his partner, he comes along.

Jane is there to question him with Lisbon. Parsiado made a drug charge go away from her and Lacey. Parsiado says that Patrice was a CI. She wasn’t in the files. Parsiado says that he paid Patrice for sex. Jane had arrived with a sandwich. He offers it to Parsiado. Lisbon asks to have his gun tested. For some reason Jane keeps trying to hold Parsiado’s hand.

Jane says that Parsiado is a terrible liar. Lisbon says that she will keep Blakely busy while Jane questions his wife. Parsiado said that he was with his partner watching a game. It was too late to leave, so he slept on the couch. Blakely’s wife was there.

Sam Blakely, the first responder and Blakely’s son, opens the door. Sam didn’t want Jane to talk with his mom, but she hears him at the door and comes to see him. Jane wants to see Mrs. Blakely alone. Sam is reluctant to leave. Jane checks up on Parsiado’s alibi. He tells her that Parsiado was having an affair with Patrice. Dale tells Catherine that Steve has a problem with his privates. He’s impotent. Apparently, he’s a hopeless case. Knowing Steve, he was probably lying to protect someone else. Sam comes back when Catherine breaks a glass. Catherine immediately knows that Sam knew that his father was having an affair. Sam tries to deny it. Blakely arrives. He punches Jane on the nose.

They question Blakely. Cho takes the initial interview. Blakely asks for a lawyer. His revolver was stolen from his car. Jane knows that Blakely isn’t going to talk. Sam Blakely arrives at the station. Jane says that they know that Blakely didn’t kill them. Carris says that his man was there to kill them, but he didn’t kill anyone. His man will ID the real killer, he saw everything. They say that they will try to playing Carris. They want Sam to talk with his chief. The chief will want the details, but he’ll work with them.

They are actually playing Sam as a fool. It’s a trap. Blakely arrives and shoots a dummy. The squad arrives to take in Blakely. He’s the murderer. They bring in Blakely Sr. He tells Jr to tell the truth. It turns out that Sr was keeping Patrice on the side. He was following Patrice and came upon Purcell and Maddigan. Purcell went for a gun since he thought that he was there to kill him because he was sent by Carris.

Patrice was Blakely’s daughter. He discovered that he had a daughter four years ago. Her mother was dying and called him up. He’s been helping her out ever since. Jane brings by Kaylee to the Blakely’s. She’s their granddaughter.
