Lost is a United States serial drama television series that follows the lives of plane crash survivors on a mysterious tropical island, after a passenger jet flying between Sydney, Australia and Los Angeles, United States crashes somewhere in the South Pacific. Each episode typically features a primary storyline on the island as well as a secondary storyline from another point in a character’s life. The show was created by Damon Lindelof, J. J. Abrams and Jeffrey Lieber, and is filmed primarily on location in Oahu, Hawaii. The pilot episode was first broadcast on September 22, 2004. Since then, three seasons have aired. The show is produced by ABC Studios, Bad Robot Productions and Grass Skirt Productions and airs on the ABC Network in the United States. Its incidental music is composed by Michael Giacchino. The current executive producers are Abrams, Lindelof, Bryan Burk, Jack Bender and Carlton Cuse. Because of its large ensemble cast and the cost of filming in Hawaii, the series is one of the most expensive on television.
Warning: Spoilers ahead.
Locke and Ben talk things out. Ben has got no excuses, but he’s got to be judged by the Smoke Monster and the Island. Things are going to get pretty crazy. As much as we thought that Cesar was going to be important, he doesn’t survive long.
For some reason, that has yet to be explained, Ilana asks Lapidus the same question that someone asked Miles in the next episode.
What lies in the shadow of the statue?
Apparently, if you know the answer to this question, you can go to the Island. This is probably one of the most important things that has occurred in recent episodes. It’s apparent that the remainder of this season will tell the story of what happened, without really clearing up things. Another interesting fact is that the Smoke Monster was used by the Egyptian god Anubis to judge people and give them entry into the afterlife. We see this in the caves that lead to the grid where the monster lies.
We also find out that Widmore was exiled from the Island by Ben, for consorting with outsiders. Sounds like a trumped up charge. This is why Widmore hates Ben.
I really like this part of the story that is taking place in the 70s. So many answers are given and more questions arise.

An Other arrives at camp. It’s Charles Widmore and he’s upset that Richard brought a boy to the temple. Richard says that Jacob wanted it like this. The Island chose him. Ben tells Charles that he wants to stay and become one of the Others.
In the present, Ben awakes. Ben says that he broke the rules. He is going to have to answer for his crimes. He was going back to be judged. He says he was going to be judged by the Smoke Monster. Ben goes out to the beach. The new arrivals are moving a large crate. Ilana and another guy say that it has stuff that they need. Cesar and Ben talk. Ben plants a seed of doubt. He says that John might have been on the Island already. Cesar shows him his gun and says that he’s got Ben’s back.
Ben is looking through a desk. He finds a picture of him and Alex. Locke arrives. He wants to talk. He says that it was the only way of getting the others back to the Island. He needed critical information that John had. Afterwards, he didn’t have time to talk him back into killing himself. He took a shortcut. Locke wants to help Ben get his judgement from the monster. They decide to take a boat. When Cesar comes to see what is happening with the boats, he stops them from leaving on a boat. Ben shoots Cesar with his gun.
Consider that my apology.
Ben to Locke after he shot Cesar and tossed him the sawed-off shotgun
They arrive at the main Island. Sun and Lapidus are also here. He wants to go to his old house and summon the monster. Locke thinks that he is lying. Locke thinks that Ben wants to be judged for killing Alex. They arrive at the Barracks. Someone has the light already on in Alex’s room. Ben goes inside. John doesn’t seem surprised. Sun and Lapidus are in Alex’s room. They show him the photo that Christian gave them. He told them to wait here for John Locke. They both think that John is still dead. Ben tells them to look outside. They see Locke. Lapidus is going back to the beach. Sun was told to wait here for Locke to find Jin. But before, Ben needs to summon the monster. Ben goes into his closet and opens an ancient stone door, hidden behind some wall. He goes down some stairs with a lantern. He enters a murky pool of water and puts his hand inside. He pulls the plug and the water drains away. He says that he’ll be outside.
He comes outside and finds Sun waiting. Locke had something to do. He says that the Island has never brought anyone back from the dead. Dead is dead. The fact that Locke is walking around on the Island scares him. He sends Sun inside. It’s just John. It’s taking time for the monster to arrive. Ben says that he only knows how to summon it, not where it actually resides. Locke says that he knows where it is.
Ben thinks he knows where they are going. They are going to the temple, that’s where Ben was healed the last time. The wall was built by the Others to keep people like them out. Locke says that they are going under the temple, not inside.
Before stepping inside the hole, he tells Sun to give a message to Desmond. He wanted to tell him that he was sorry.
Lapidus arrives back at the beach. Three of the others have taken charge of some guns. Ilana asks what lies in the shadow of the statue. She knocks Lapidus to the ground. She says that Lapidus is coming with them. She’s acting quite Other-like. She’s got some help as well.
Ben says that he will go ahead alone. He knows that it isn’t far. As he steps forward, he falls down a shaft. He’s fine and in some other part of the temple. There is a carving of Anubis, the Egyptian god of the dead. His light goes out and the Smoke Monster appears from a stone grill that was right in front of him. Static electricity is discharged around him. He sees images of his past. He sees Widmore and Alex. He hears the words that got Alex killed. The monster sniggers and disappears into the stone grill. His torch goes back on. Alex is behind him. He says that he is sorry. She says that she knows. She says that she knows that he is already planning to kill John again. If he does it again, she will hunt him down and kill him. She says that he will follow him and obey his every word. She makes him swear it. Ben starts to cry. Alex is gone. Was she real or the Island made flesh? He hears Locke and says that it let him live. So Locke is truly the leaders of the Others, the leader that the Island wants.
The story shifts to 1988 when Ethan was a teenager. Ben goes out to a beach with a drawn gun. It’s when he abducted Alex. Rousseau is there. He tells Rousseau that every time she hears whispers, she needs to run the other way.
Ben brings Alex to the camp. Widmore and Richard are eating. He was sent to kill Rousseau. He was sent to kill the woman as well as the baby. Ben sees no threat to the Others. He hands over the baby to Widmore and says that if he wants to kill it, he’ll have to do it. Widmore walks away.
Years later, Ben is taking care of Alex. Charles is being taken off the Island in chains. He left the Island regularly and had a child with an outsider. He broke the rules and therefore he is being exiled. Charles says that if the Island really wanted Alex dead, she’ll end up dead and he’ll be the one exiled.
Ben calls Charles right before leaving. He says that he found a way back to the Island. He plans on killing his daughter. He has found Penny. He tells Widmore as much. He approaches the boat. Desmond sees him and Ben has to shoot him instead. Ben comes up to Penny. He says that he hates her father and that he is here to kill her. Charlie comes up. It stops Ben from shooting anyone. Desmond comes and beats Ben to a pulp. That’s why Ben was all messed up when he got onto the plane. He is thrown into the water.
