50 KM Night Bike Ride

My day started a bit late, so I only ended getting ready for my ride at around 6PM. I don’t think that it was a bad idea to wait though, as it was a scorcher outside.

Once again, there was a 30 kph ENE wind that was a real annoyance. With the river winding around, I had it in my face for long parts of the ride. When I crossed the Huajhong bridge for the last time, a girl riding opposite of me was really hesitant. This made me swerve and hit the railing with my hand and handlebar. I was fine, but it was annoying. At least she checked if I was fine.

The first part of the ride passed without incidents, though I did feel yesterday‘s ride in my legs. The soreness dissipated as I started my second 25 km loop. Naturally, I had to swerve a whole bunch of times to avoid leisure bikers. There was one dude on a road bike that just distanced me so fast. I was close to his back wheel when he started accelerating. With already 45 km in my legs, I couldn’t hack his speed. Well, I probably could have, but I was pacing myself and didn’t see the need to exhaust myself to get close to him again.

The first 25 km was done in 34:46. The whole 50 km was done in 1:08:24, which is a bit faster than usual.

weekly km count: 230
